Best advice for taking care of a ticket

Family member of mine got a speeding ticket 46 in a 30 in Amherst. In the past I can remember it was always better to pley not guilty but I heard with the new laws that not guilty isnt the way to go. Obviously points on the license should be avoided and its better to pay higher fees and not school, but which will take him there, guilty or not guilty?
thx

granted its been a long while since i was written but if i recall correctly City of Buffalo was the only place you were fucked becuase not only do they not reduce charges but they hit you with a court fee just for wasting time if you decide to plea not guilty.

small towns usually get to keep the funds they collect from parking tickets and traffic school so typically your best bet was always plea not guilty and take the parking tickets and/or traffic school

plus you can double dip and use that traffic school attendance to lower your insurance. they wont know that you got a speeding ticket that was reduced and you were forced to attend the class…

I just call my lawyer and give him the ticket and he gets it dropped or reduced to a small fine with no points or school. If you want his information pm me.

false

again its been a long time since i have been there but i most certainly did that via town of hamburg about 6-7 years ago…

plead not guilty
wait for the letter with a possible new court date
show up and see the prosecutor and he will tell you a $100 parking ticket and school maybe. and no points…providing they dont have a past with a ton of tickets or been to school in 18 months for something previous

All of these posts are clearly experience from before the new laws. Anyone have something since the new ones? Is it just a matter of adding the extra 80 dollars to the fees with no other changes to the procedure?

Not guilty and call a lawyer. My little bro when he was 19 got a ticket on George Urban doing 70+ in 30, he was driving my dads Cruze which happened to be a EcoBoost 6 speed turbo, so immediately he thought he was driving a Lambo when he unleashed all the hell a 140 hp could summon.

Lawyer = 200$, Parking Ticket 50$, no school, no points.

Edit: 6 months ago just for time reference.

Amherst is almost 100% school req’d last I heard about performance awards.

Good luck, worst town to get a ticket in. They throw the book at you no matter what, so make sure the have deep pockets it will be a hefty fine.

My buddy got pulled over in amherst yesterday. Guy came up and said he had him at 58 in a 40. Friend has the escort 9500xi and told him no you didnt have your radar on they went back and fourth and he ended up letting him go with no ticket. I hate the Amherst Police i avoid driving in Amherst as much as possible.

Lol, arguing with cops.

Amherst sucks its usually cheaper to get a lawyer there…

I got a red light (yellow light) ticket in Tonawanda City a few weeks ago. I went into traffic court this past friday and it was packed. The judge brings people up 5 at a time, pretty much says, “don’t do it again”, and reduces everyones violation to a parking ticket and school. This judge was all about the school. And it specifically says on the form for singing up for the school that it cannot be used towards reducing insurance premiums.

There was an old guy in his 80s with a speeding violation, his first ever ticket. The judge just let him go.

There was a young woman who has had numerous speeding violations in the past while. The judge made her write a 1000 word essay on speeding, being sure to include how long it takes a car to cover a certain distance at a certain speed, and how long it takes to stop from that speed. He gave her a week to submit it.

What “NEW LAWS” are you referring to…i havent heard of anything link?

^^lol.

i go to amherst court august 19th.

speeding ticket on 990. yay.

I was in Amherst traffic court a few weeks ago and everyone was getting 125-200 parking tickets and school. Mine got dropped

I always carry a box of Timbits in my vehicle. When the officer comes to the door, I scatter them about as a distraction, then flee while he chases them down as they roll alongside the road.

Cuomo is such an asshole. I wouldn’t piss on him if he were on fire.

I got a ticket a few weeks back for not fully stopping at the stop sign at the circle on Richmond/Ferry.

I pleaded not guilty, and the city judge made it very clear they were not reducing any charges anymore. He gave everyone one last chance to change their plea and avoid a court charge, I stuck to my plea of not guilty to see what would happen…lucked out and my officer was a no show!

But yes, in the city of buffalo, they do appear to be serious about no longer reducing charges…there were a few people who tried to bargain but got no where.

Sounds like they want to play the game and change the rules as they go. We don’t want to give you your right to your day in court so we’ll just do wtf we want.
