not sayin it isnt but i cant justify myself to actually hold a car review to any kind of stature knowing its swung one way or another
you cant take it like its written in stone thats for sure but they still must hold some water to say some of the things they do
How come the majority of the people I know who own domestic vehicles are beat to shit at 100,000 miles (drivin like gramma’s) and my Honda Civic LX has 160,000 and runs strong? I have beat the shit outta it, and can still beat the shit outta it and all i’ve ever had to replace on it was a clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder and a muffler? Total of $120.00 worth of maintenance in the course of 4 years. And ya wonder why people pick on domestics?
I had a 1993 Honda Civic DX as my winter beater this winter, 275,xxx miles. At 260,xxx miles i had to replaces the stock axles and it’s 2nd clutch. Other than that, didn’t burn oil, coolant, nothing, AND i beat the shit out of it as some people on here have seen over the winter :rofl
This is not a comparison test, or which car is cooler…its about how well these cars hold up. Reliability data for used cars comes from actual owners reports, not made up numbers. Your volkswagon jetta is more likely to have problems then your honda accord. Its been that way forever and everyone knows this. Obviously any car can fall apart or be a lemon, their list is what makes/models are consistently better or worse.
Agreed.
you’re just saying that because everyone knows that Honda’s are the top in reliability. :banana
…and I have a funny feeling you don’t like Honda’s. :kicklow
Try reading the thread next time. :nono
Oh, I read the thread. I just don’t see how there can be any bias information when everything comes from actual reports. Plus I was just bustin’ your balls.
The problem is understanding the actual criteria defined within these reports. For example, domestic car has 5 motor failures and import car has 8 squeeky door jams. Even though 8 is more, the motor failures is more of a concern.
While I believe there isn’t a study in the world that would indicate domestics as a whole are more reliable than an import, every mag has an agenda. Someone pays their bills.
so where are all the people with the agenda to promote domestics?
you’d think if they are all so biased whipping out some charts showing domestics to be more reliable would be a breeze.
everybody in m family has a toyota, lexus, honda, acura, nissan and i have the audi. we all had domestics, they all sucked tremendously and werent worth the money spent.
They know better?
It’s all speculation man but whenever I read a MotorTrend/Car and Driver, you read stuff in all markets that is slanted in some ways or at least given that impression.
YEA THEY DO!
Dont forget psychology here. Over the years, many import drivers have been defensive toward their choice of import. They, then, as a group, tend to defend their cars to the point they believe that the cars are better.
Just sumptin to chew on.
Yes, I’m aware of the quality differences in several instances. It was real…and is to a point.
M3 FTW
ya know what… that is very true
here are some examples:
my neighor has a dodge grand caravan year 2000 driven like a grandma and he needs to do the head gaskets cuz they leak… only 100k on em… strut towers are rusting reallyyy bad… junk
his cousin has the same thing but a voyager… 133k on and its got a bad rodkonck and no compression in cyclinders 1 and 3 iirc… strut towers are rusted completly through… junk
he has an 89 s10 pick up… runs like a champ but built like garbage and is rusty to fuck
his dad- 99 silverado…he is getting really bad rust issues… FOR A 99!!
my mom had an blue eg hatch 1993—> cheap metal and the typical honda cancer at the rear… blown head gasket at 150k and traded it in for an 04 civic in 04
the 1990 vw passat we have has NO rust on it, its been reliable, we had it since 1992…
german cars are built way more solidly then dumbestics and japanese…however they “tend” to be more reliable then german cars… i’d rather dump money into a 1992 jetta GLI that has a mint body with no cancer then some shitbox rusty civic you have to patch up all the rust which will end up coming thru in a few year anyway…/ rant
My family stopped buying domestics after my Dad’s s10 had a gas tank leak after 200 miles, and rod knock and a radiator that was about to blow after 40k.
well pete the older vw’s are fine then why do the new ones blow nutz
mine is fine, my dad’s is fine, brett’s is fine, joe’s is fine…
