Best time to buy?

Hey everyone ,you may all not know me… but i have been on here for sometime and a lover of these cars that you all have also loved. And so i begin my search for my s13 240sx. I dont want to spend too much more than $2000 ,but thats not really the point. I was wondering what season is the best to buy a 240sx, from a finanical pint of view. That is to say, when are the best condition ones for sale. I woudl imagine during the spring, getting ready for sumer, but i would liek to hear from you. :stuck_out_tongue:

Used car prices (and esp. RWD) are typically lower during fall and winter due to lower demand. And consequently prices usually jump in spring as soon as better weather comes.

As far as when the best condition cars are available, it could be any time though obviously not as likely during the winter.

This is true, nicer and more cars during summer but you’ll pay more. In the winter there are less cars and you’re less likely to find one but they might be a bit cheaper.

great thanks, thats some goooood advice

here’s a few tips:

  • it’s great to have a budget, but be prepared to spend more than you expected.
  • don’t buy the first car you see… look at a few and compare.
  • do your homework and know what to look for (ie. common problems).
  • generally, you get what you pay for.

thanks man, yea ive compiled a pretty large file in text on what to look for, all teh codes, how to read the VIN, meaning if its all original and everything the package came with…so far ive seen eon which was in damn good shape frame/body wise. The engine had a kink or 2, nothign TOO major so i am sorta considering it, but i mgiht wait till later in the summer and see whats lying around. Yea i eman ive got mroe than 2000, but i think for the type of condition im looking for anywhere between 2000 and 3 should be in the right range… and then there are of course a few funds made available for the reconditioning/fixing/modding(not too much at first) of the car.

If you have a CARFAX account or a link to one it would help with finding the history of the car. CARFAX can help out alot with such things as recent to previous owners, where the car was first purchased from, yearly emissions tests which usually include the mileage at that time. Good for making sure the KMS weren’t rolled back. Most important of all, accident claims. Goodluck…
