ignitor makes it so much easier to understand
UGH…here we go again…
so i borrowed Eric’s (blk300tt) harness…and the car ran great, sweet…i order a new harness…the next night, i’m gonna go return him his harness, and pack my z again until mine comes in…but i decide to go for a quick ride before putting her away for another couple days…well, it starts acting up again…cutting spark like crazy…almost completely…at one point, i had my foot WOT, and nothing was happening…
so i pulled over…and left his harness on there, but took my ignitor chip off of it, and put his on…to see if maybe my chip was bad…nope…car still did it…not as bad, but still did it…so couldnt have been the chip…
Eric seems to think is the throttle position sensor…and he explained to me why, but i still dont get how that would cause spark cut…i thought spark was determined independent of the throttle position…
a few other people, myself included…are leaning toward the loose wire theory…as with most intermittent problems, this makes sense…a loose wire every now and then shakes itself loose, and then sometimes lays just right so that the things work well…the theory works, and people are telling me it’s probably a main ground, or maybe the ground wire on the ignitor chip’s subharness…
i’m ruling out the ignitor chip subharness ground theory because eric’s harness works fine on his car…but not on mine, so that harness isn’t to blame…
a main engine ground is a possibility…i have to look for them and see if there are any loose…newman gave me a good idea where to start looking for them from when he did the swap, and he said there’s a small on under the throttle cable cover that may have come loose…
what i dont get though, is how would a loose ground cause spark cut? and nothing else…i’m not losing power to the whole car…everything else works, i hear the pump sending fuel from behind me, lights dont dim in the least bit…just losing spark…wouldn’t a ground cause more than just spark problems?
and finally, i have to check my spark wires again…they’re tucked away in such a way that they may be pinched…which is a long shot i know, but it’s worth checking…but then again, this, like all other possible causes, would be something that causes the problem to exist ALL THE TIME, and not just every now and then…
God damn i hate intermittent problems…
ANY AND ALL ADVICE IS MUCH APPRECIATED (except from those that tell me to sell my car…stfu)
spark plug wires? distributor? just throwin shit out there…
no distributor…individual coil packs…but i plan on check their wires in the morning, there’s a slim chance they may be getting pinched between the throttle cable cover, and the intake plenum…which may cause it…especially since the problem only occurs when it’s hot…the wires may only be getting angry at me when they get heated…being pinched against the engine like that…
