BIG REDS wanna be Nick Cage Build thread.

i still see holes man

yup, I dont do it a lot tho…until now

…and for good reason. bodywork is time consuming. i can attest.

There’s a reason why clean bodies cost so much. Cause good bodywork is very expensive!
I am a big fan of this no shortcuts approach. It will pay off.

yea it sucks when you have to spend time fixing other peoples cobb jobs.

last night me and the mad scientist recovered the rear lower seat.

And the next project while im waiting on body parts will be turning these mint, front seats into something more fitting for the car.

Yup, I fuckin hate it! :lol

Thats for damn sure, the last car I did before leaving the body-work buisness was a 67 camaro, and the job ran about $9600! Keep in mind that was with him re-assembling some of it as well.

puts the seat button on.

damn… mad respect

Hair dryers and heat guns work wonders on vinyl but Im sure you already knew that. My dad restored a few cars in the 90s. One of which was a labeled as unsafe at any speed. They were very time consuming but that wasn’t an issue. As a Fire Fighter you work a 24hr shift and have the next 3 days off.

yea I had a heat gun but I didnt even need it.

I spent more time on the trunk today and finally got it fitting as good as its gonna get. I had to install rubber bumpers and take 1/4 inch out of the trunk latch. The drivers endcap is 1/2 inch shorter than the passenger which explains the gap. ill add some fiberglass to get everything to line up real nice.

before

the latch all welded

and after

Doin werk Dave, good shit.

How’s the fitment on all the Eleanor body pieces? I’m assuming they’re fiberglass?

so far I only have the trunk, im still waiting on the rest. Fiberglass never fits right in the firs place, then add in fitting it to a 43 year old car and its quite a challenge.

looks like youve come a along way so far…wish i was as motivated as you are…good job keep us updated…

I got some body panels in the mail today. I got the upper scoops, the upper nose piece and the lower nose support. The lower valence is on backorder so I wont have it for another week or two. The scoops fit nice and will only need a little trimming to fit the body contour. The upper nose fit isn’t too bad either, its gonna need some blocking/filling to be even with the fender.

Were the side scoops functional on the acctual car?

Any plans to make them functional? Like an air duct type deal down into the wheel well

IDK just wondering

the scoops come molded shut, however most people including myself make them functional. There is an air vent in the back of the car that you can open or close to get fresh air in the car.

you can see it in this picture, the chrome grill thing

Oh wow thats pretty neat…

Awesome stuff!

yah my dads car has those…when I was little I would always open and close them playing in the car in the garage…I had no clue what they were for lol

older cars had the BEST shit in them. Nice progress Dave, it’s motivating to see someone else putting in WORK.
