BIG :tup: to Japan Star Motor (my review)

here is the story … I blew my Civic motor up on Friday, so I spent almost the whole day Friday and Saturday calling junkyards all I can find is fully stripped long blocks for $600(250k miles) to $1200(120k miles)… all was just for the long block and with a core charge…

So I think to myself we have a forum and they may have people that know of deals or what have you … I see that we have someone that sells JDM motors… I see that they charge a huge amount for shipping… (and while trolling around other forums they talk mad S*IT about other company’s and Im not into that.)…so I decide to Google D17A motors for sale and find http://www.shopjdmstar.com and see that they offer free shipping… I call them up on Saturday they were closed but called me back after hours to talk to me and let me know they have the motor in stock it has less than 40k miles …he said he would stop by the shop and take more pictures of it and send them to me via email … (he sent me 35 pictures …14 of which had Saturdays news paper on the top of the motor) dude told me it had all belts wires plugs and everything…and he would “DESTROY” any “to my house shipped” price I can find… I told him i found them for 850 on a different website he says he will give me a price Monday , and tells me he will not be in the shop till noon on Monday…but will call me … at 12:05 I got a call he says $789.00 to my door… he tells me how to order … go on website put my #'s in 5 min latter I get a email that its all good… He calls me back … he got my payment and will get the ball going on shipping my motor to me… He then says he will ship it out as soon as he can… I get a call Tuesday night. The motor is in buffalo and they want to confirm my address and if someone will be home or if the item can be dropped in the driveway… I tell them someone will be home from 11am till when ever Wednesday… I get the motor at 11am put in my garage no extra “residence” charge or any BS like that… Total cost $789 for a motor with a 90 day warranty on block and head…

Aren’t they located in Albany? If so I’ve dealt with them alot with great success

Awesome, glad that worked out for you.

I love their site too, tons of pics of everything, really prefer to see photos of everything before I buy anything like that online.

Possible bad motor from what justawhoredoor told me today he got it up and running and was pissing oil and high rev, he called and they were talking about possibly replacing motor for him which is nice but a huge pain in the dick to have to wait for another motor and pull/install again.

update like Billy said it is leaking.

So its leaking out of the camshaft seal … kinda a PITA … I spoke to the owner Dean today(he called me) he said if anything happens to the motor in 3 months he will still replace it out and not to worry about it … I thought at first it was the main crank seal but once i took it apart and saw it was still good I decided to put it together enough to start it and saw it was looking towards the top so once I take the plastic off to see if its the head or the cam seal

regardless they told me that I can return the motor and get a new one or fix it and they will square up with me on the cost of parts

I’d put a belt kit on it, valve cover gasket, cam seal etc, and chock it up to maintenance.
