IMO, there’s a better chance of NY breaking into two states than Alberta actually breaking away, and the NY thing is basically 0% as well. It’s nice to see people fed up enough to start talking about it at least though.

Canada is definitely better than the US if you’re lower income and need the social services.
problem is, and this is well-known, as soon as you’re upper middle class and headed higher it becomes far far better to be in the US… it’s not even linear. As soon as you start making a couple hundred grand and own a home you can literally double your quality of life in the US if you can get proper status.
for example, if you’re an Ontarian (like me) and you’re over $100k annually and you move to like FL or a low tax mid western state and live outside the expensive metro areas your taxes drop by half, your cost of living drops by 20-25% and you will likely earn 50% - 150% more for the same kind of work because the US economy is so large that you can afford to pay senior, national staff $300k+ USD for roles that only earn you $150k CAD because our national economy isa fraction of yours.

Do social services in Canada just pay for housing for low income individuals?

If median home price is 880k, and median income is 101k, and average rent is 2450, does the government just pick up the rest, or is there a limit?
Ontario homelessness is 1.5% vs .8% for NY (the state not city)
If the answer is yes I’m guessing this falls on the middle class. Middle class is considered 75% of the income of the median.
