Just found a computer here in PEI
I have the first generation coils w/o the helper springs.
The rubbing issue hasn’t been solved as of yet. I’m running roughly 20mm of preload all around and the front damping set to 12 and the rear set to 10.
Under normal driving rubbing isn’t an issue, but as soon as I start pushing it to it’s limits there is noticeable rub.
I was reading a thread on ziptied about preload and someone made a big write-up saying that upping the preload actually increases the travel. I will try and find a link and post it up. But at the same time I’ve talked to many people saying the cured their rubbing issues by upping the preload. iono.
Overall I’m very happy with the performance of these coils, but I don’t have much to compare them to (just megans really). I agree with you Andrew when you say they almost seem overdamped sometimes. They felt that way for the first week or two, but they seem to have improved.
The biggest difference I notice going from sportlines to these (other than the kidney jarring stiffness) is the increased traction. I guess I should have assumed this would be the case, but it really impressed me. I havn’t been able to make it to the track yet to really test them out. Soon enough.
Another issue I’ve noticed with these is the front camber plates. I have mine maxed out positive (7 degrees IIRC) and they look to be around 0 degrees. I’m not sure why that would be. What do you have yours set at Andrew?
btw, my car isn’t sitting gay high as John has said. It it still probably 1/2"-1" lower all around than sportlines.
Sorry to get OT in your thread bing.
Hey Walter,
I’ve got the Stance on my car too and I must say I havn’t found the damping to be a problem, at least not to the extent you are talking about.
I initially had some rubbing in the front BUT, that was only at full soft (8/6 springs) and only while taking large bumps (the QEW kind at 120k). Also I was running oversized tires which certainly didn’t help the cause and there was only a weee bit of space between the tires and fenders. There was a break-in period of a few hundred k before the springs and damping started to feel more connected. For the first little while I felt like I was driving a CRX with chopped springs.
At full hard thses things are goddamn solid as hell. I have yet to find a road surface that I feel comfortable driving these things on above a 6 or 8 so I cant imagine how in the hell you are still rubbing on 12!? How much travel are you experiencing before things start to rub???
20mm of pre-load sounds like a lot. Have you tried to take some out and see how things ride?
My only compliant so far has been an undiagnosed knocking from the rear coils over bumps at slow-moderate speed. I tried every combination of pre-load, damping, checked all the connections, etc so I’m chalking it up to the pillowballs and lack of any cushioning on the top mounts. I’m sure the new GT models with helper springs absorb a lot of this unwanted noise.
That’s my 2cents. Sorry for thread pooping Bing.
GTFO./. take it to the stance thread… holy F
Bing’s sister is hot as hell… I have ideas.
