I got a call a few weeks back from one of my customers saying he had a friends valve cover that he wanted me to do. He wanted it to be Pittsburgh themed and in memory of their friend Shea (SEM) that had unfortunately passed away last year. He wanted this to be a surprise for his friend Silvio who is restoring a Galant VR-4. I found out TPG Tuning was having a dyno day this past Saturday and so we had planned to go not knowing they would all be there until a few days beforehand. A few days before, I talked to Dave and he says they’ll all be there so of course I am 100% going now so that I can watch Dave present Silvio his gift. Well here it is and I am very proud and thankful to be a part of this project and everyone else that was involved to make this happen for Silvio. Here are some pictures and a video of him receiving his new valve cover:

Thanks Luke! There were different materials used with this but for most masking its a high temperature silicone tape which leaves very sharp lines too.
It’s definitely one of those that you either love the idea or hate it. It’ll likely end up as a wall hanger though, he said he wants to be able to look at it daily and doesn’t want to get it dirty or scratched up so he’d swap it on just for meets/shows.
We use a lot of 3M 8902 for paint masking. I’ve recently been trying their 5413 tape (which is a polyimide film; polyimide = $$$) which is a higher temp tape and leaves an even crisper line if you ever needed to do REALLY detailed work.
I can etch 8902 tape (or any backed tape really) if you ever needed 2D imaging (needs to be a CAD generated image) for more custom work.
Thanks for the heads up, I will keep that in mind. I’m not sure exactly what the name of this stuff is as I buy it from a reseller. Wheels are the biggest thing for me with getting perfect lines on.
