Body people... looking to see what my options are.

The front air dam of my car is plastic, as has some pretty hefty cracks in it.

I repaired it once before with Bondo… and it looked pretty good. For about 3 days. (it was meant to be a temporary fix just to close the gap in the cracks… but not that temporary!)

The problem was, the air dam moves the slightest bit. It shakes when the doors are slammed and when I hit big bumps. Not to mention when I scraped it on the ground trying to exit my buddies driveway which is a very steep incline.

What is out there that its a filler-type product, but is flexible? Even just slightly flexible? Some sort of plastic filler? The regular mud worked great until it cracked again.

I have some time to figure it out, but I don’t want to have to redo the damn thing every year. I might just fiberglass it anyway, so the whole thing is less flimsy and more rigid. (Then there is more of a chance of it cracking/breaking than just flexing when it makes contact with somthing.)

The piece in question: (most closeup shot I have. This is from when I first bought the car, I hadn’t painted or repaired the damage yet.)

buy a new one.

what year, model?

Ehh… I would buy another one, but they don’t make brand new ones. I’d have to buy a used one off another car. They aren’t cheap either, especially if they’re in good shape. I’d say $250+ for a crack free air dam with foglights. Racing Dynamics makes one but it’s about $600. I won’t spend that kind of money on this car.

there is flexible bumper repair. they sell it at body supply stores. it is a two part epoxy. but remains pliable. 3M sold it. i will see if i have any left in cabinet as i don’t do bodywork anymore. you can have it if still there and useable.

Geez some people just never stop stealing business from people

Thanks Jeff, let me know.

my bad thats a pretty rare bmw

On the back of the airdam it tells u what material it is made of. U need to find out what it is before u do anything. All kinds of stuff out there to reapair with, Like chem weld, EP, and a good ole plastic welder and wire mesh.

I’ll be sure to check what it’s made out of the next time I have the car jacked up or have the air dam off. Thanks
