So for those who actually care about baseball, Bonds was indicted today for perjury and obstruction of justice, charged with lying when he told a federal grand jury that he did not knowingly use performance-enhancing drugs.
I am a big Bonds fan but that definitely sucks for him.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Barry Bonds was indicted Thursday for perjury and obstruction of justice, charged with lying when he told a federal grand jury that he did not knowingly use performance-enhancing drugs.
The indictment unsealed Thursday against baseball’s home-run king culminated a four-year investigation into steroid use by elite athletes.
“During the criminal investigation, evidence was obtained including positive tests for the presence of anabolic steroids and other performance enhancing substances for Bonds and other athletes,” the indictment read.
In August, the 43-year-old Bonds passed Hank Aaron to become baseball’s career home run leader. Late in the season, the San Francisco Giants told the seven-time National League MVP they didn’t want him back next year. He is currently a free agent.
While Bonds was chasing Aaron, the grand jury was working behind closed doors to complete the long-rumored indictment.
“I’m surprised,” said John Burris, one of Bonds’ attorneys, "but there’s been an effort to get Barry for a long time. “I’m curious what evidence they have now they didn’t have before.”
The indictment charged Bonds with lying when he said that he didn’t knowingly take steroids given to him by his personal trainer, Greg Anderson. He also denied taking steroids at anytime in 2001 when he was pursuing the season home-run record. He is also charged with lying that Anderson never injected him with steroids. “Greg wouldn’t do that,” Bonds testified in December 2003 when asked if Anderson ever gave him any drugs that needed to be injected. “He knows I’m against that stuff.”
His trainer probably caved and ratted him out. I am indifferent to this. It will be interesting to see how this all pans out.

Exactly what I was going to say.

BTW, if Bonds is guilty on all counts, he could get 30 years in Federal Pound-Me-In-The-Ass Prison.

I heard about that… but I doubt that he’ll end up spending any substantial amount of time in prison, if any at all. I’m kind of neutral in the whole matter, he went out and hit a shit load of HR’s, with the help of performance enhancing drugs, and he probably knew about it. Put an asterisk next to his name and let baseball fans view him however they want. As for the lying to a grand jury part, that’s something I don’t really know much about, so however it plays out…
I do find it a little funny how these investigators who’ve been supposedly working on this case for four years come out and indict him only a couple months after he breaks the HR record…
So what changed between now and 4 years ago when this all started? What’s the new evidence, and what exactly did they indite him on? I have a feeling they still don’t have the goods, so the Grand Jury (re: Kangaroo Court) ticky tacked everything else just to get some resolution before they were disbanded.

It’s gonna come down to Barry Bonds vs his trainer as the trainer was let out of jail today. Wow, I wonder why.
Anyway, I dunno who the jury is going to beleive on the stand but we shall know sometime in december as that is the start of Bond’s trial.
Now, let me pose a hypothetical question. And this is all purely academic.
Let’s say that Hank still has the ability to hit one out of one of the smaller parks. Would you be in favor of some team picking him up for a few games while opposing pitchers threw a few ducks for him to hit, just so his record is back in its rightful place?

No.
As much as I am a Bonds fan, I look forward to A-Rod beating Bonds, and then hopefully Pujols beating A-Rod, given all these guys stay healthy.
Bonds did nothing wrong, he used what is out there in todays medicine.
And they were not against league rules when he used them, so therefore, he did nothing wrong on a sense of his record.

i thought illegal drugs were against league rules? :smash2: illeagl in the real world doesn’t mean athletes get to use them.
I have a question to ask everyone…why is it that bonds is the face of this thing when the entire game is tainted and mcgwire(sp) sosa and tons of others clearly did the same things. I understand Barry really isnt a likeable guy so he is getting what he set himself up for but sosa and the other arent all stand up guys either so why single him out?
