-Get an airline points card if you see yourself traveling frequently, and filter monthly expenses through it. It’s worth it. Look at the Chase Southwest Visa. I’ve had 4 free flights already over the past year by just filtering my monthly through it. Play the game. It works
-As stated, book Tuesday-Thursday to avoid higher weekend premiums. It can often be $200+ and in my opinion is worth taking the extra day off work.
-Book as early as you can. If you know you are traveling, just suck it up and book it. In my experience, i’ve never seen a flight go down in price. Just up as you approach the date.
-Fuck Holiday travel. The same $350-$400 flight @GV1390 was talking about is now $1000+ plus during Christmas. Fuck. Book holiday WAY in advance if you can. It sucks, but it is what it is.
Thats about all I can think of. I haven’t flown a non Southwest flight for 2014 and I don’t plan on stopping. Some people don’t like the ‘free for all’ seating mentality with Southwest, but i’ve never once had a crappy seat, I usually get drunk for free off the flight attendants, and somehow I have yet to have a ‘bad’ experience flying with them. :2cents:
PS: If you do go Southwest, make sure to check in 24 hours before to lock in your spot in line. If you don’t… then you MIGHT have a bad time. lol
I’ve been in the Delta Lounges, they are nice. Actually, it was in one of those lounges that I discovered the sanitary footpull to open the bathroom door. Every bathroom needs one of these!!
My wife used to travel multiple times a month and was racking up boat loads of miles with Southwest. Hit A-List and you’re the first person on the plane.
Even though neither of us travel for work, we still use the Southwest card for EVERYTHING because we tend to travel semi-frequently to visit family and friends all over the east coast. I just booked a flight to buffalo for us in April (Easter weekend) and only used 1/3 of the total points available lol.
Southwest will never get you fancy seats or red-carpet entrances, but the fares are reasonable and the rewards card works out really well. I’m not trying to convert you. You’re doing what works for you. I’m just saying, don’t hate on Southwest too badly.
I fly Delta and Southwest for work, and Southwest for personal (Easier to travel with the wife and kiddo on Southwest than Delta we’ve found). Have the Southwest Chase that we use for everything. We get probably 8-10 free round trip tickets on Southwest a year if not more; and I’m just banking points on Delta and Hilton for vacations for the wife and I.
Southwest and JB is the only ones I fly. Southwest put me on a trip to Florida at Baltimore. They delayed us for 2 hours due to flights that were on our transfer being delayed. The luggage was slow to load and we sat on the plane for over an hour waiting for 14 people since there was no other flights they could get moved to. I sent them an email saying how it isn’t fair to delay 200 other people since they don’t want to run an extra plane out of their main hub. I got a call back from a rep in 24 hours, they actually apologized and said they are working to increase flights to better adjust for this in 2015 and is a known problem and gave me a $100 voucher to use.
They could have said fuck off and the 2015 initiative could be all lies but hey, they do more than most airlines and being able to bring a checked bag and golf clubs without paying the $50 per bag, I am happy.
