Boost Issues.

I have been having some issue’s with the car. A few months ago while road tuning for 20psi, the car suddenly stopped boosting past 5psi. While everything else on the car was in working order, I suspected the wastegate to be the culpret. I finally had the wastegate replaced with a Tial 38mm, but am still having the same issues. The car will hit boost around 3,500rpm, and then the boost gauge will only go to about 5psi. While the old wastegate was bad, the gauge did the EXACT same thing. It will read fine for vacuum, but during boost it will fault. The car will run fine, but the gauge just does not seem to be working properly. The gauge is an Autometer, do they tend to go bad over the years? I checked the BOV prior to this as well and the spring is fine on that. Suggestions?

you sure its just not a boost leak?

Update:

Did a pressure check on the boost gauge and it is working properly. I made a leak detector for the charge piping but will not be able to use it until then. I’ve noticed a small vacuum leak coming from around the fuel rail area. Could even a small vacuum leak cause 7psi of boost to be lost?

boost gauges do go bad. at least mine did. whether that is your issue. im not sure.

Small vaccum leaks can def cause large boost problems, not always but they can. If it was to your fuel rail your ecu might be cutting boost bc its not getting enough fuel too.

Hey yamaha. I saw you car up on the lift over the weekend lol. I stopped by for the first time and talked to Jeff for a bit.

Anyways, sounds like a boost leak to me? Does it still pull like it should?

Does not pull like it should. I’m going to check with some carb cleaner to see if I can find any leaks tonight. It not, I’m going to replace the two intake manifold gaskets and go from there.

soapy bubble the boost. wd40 the vacs

Found a vacuum leak on one of my eight injectors. Possibly going to purchase a new blow off valve as I believe that may be the issue.

So far I have gotten nowhere with this issue and I am truely lost at this point.

I have replaced:

BOV
Wastegate
All vaccum lines

I’ve checked:
Turbo-small shaft play, still spools
Chargepiping, did a pressure test, everything seemed to be fine.

Suggestions?

Found my problem. These were taken with my camera, so they are kind of shitty, but you get the point.

A good 4-5 inch tear will do it for no boost.
