noise coming from boost gauge...

so i installed my Megan boost gauge, took the car for a rip and noticed a noise coming directly from the gauge. it sounds like air. i’m thinking because i didn’t use the compression sleeve on the gauge side of the hose (i dropped it and lost it) maybe i have a leak.

so now i’m questioning the accuracy of my gauge. i have an HKS wastegate actuator installed, but don’t want to adjust it until i know for sure my gauge is giving me proper readings.

when i start the car, the gauge reads ~ -16 (vacuum pressure)…
so far with a couple of second gear pulls i’ve managed to get the needle only to about 2-3 psi, but under normal acceleration it hits around the zero mark.

assuming the HKS actuator is set at a low boost level (the length of the rod measures ~ 140mm) does this sound right?

i think i’ll tape up the connection behind the gauge to try to eliminate any noise/leak, and see if my boost readings change.

any thoughts?

You are leaking…

Yep, you are leaking.

Your vacuum at idle should be around -20, and at boost you should be seeing +7 on stock SR boost.

yea thats certainly not going to seal properly…

GT

ok, i wrapped a little electrical tape around the hose between the gauge and the nut… no more noise, -20 psi at idle. :thumleft:

now just need to adjust the wastegate actuator.

lol

it’ll leak in boost man

fix it properly

Loctite/teflon tape ftw

And maybe silicon sealent if you want to seal off some air.
