Boring over modular 4.6

Ok, So I have had a '98 Crown Victoria P71 for about a year, I enjoy the police package goodies, but I want more get up and go. Not knowing if these motors can handle nitrous safely, more displacement always helps.

Does anyone have any experience with the 4.6 modular, and can any machinists throw a estimate my way of about how much this will run.

Thanks.

Aren’t those a dime a dozen? Whack it with a hundred shot, if it goes then build one bored.

Ls1 swap. Done

They take nitrous just fine.
Put a turbo on it.

5.4 swap. torque is fun

It takes nitrous fine. I used to hit my 03 mustang with a 100 shot when it had the 4.6 in it.

If you want more steady power, H/C/I can show huge gains.

Have you done drive train upgrades? you can make more and more power, but really you want to use what you have more effectively with gears, high stall Torque converter, and a trak loc first. You will need at least a mail order tune to use the gears and high stall torque converter though.

With the 98, you can put PI cams and PI intake on it, and make just as much power as the guys do when they swap to the new style heads.

I forget what it is worth, but 25-30 horsepower with a proper tune.

Look around Modular depot.

I would do gears and a converter also…

The car currently has 3.73 gears in it, but limited slip diff, ill have to look into that trac lock

I didnt realize H/C/I could do so much. Ill have to look into PI Heads/Intake and save up for a cam and exhaust.

then some nitrous for extra fun.

Thanks alot for the help, when I get the parts , ill need some help installing and tuning.

Someone started making heads for that motor a year ago, might be worth looking into.

T-5 swap it.

In before

:danny:

Trickflow did, but they are big money

Interested to see where this goes, as once my vette is back on the road I’d be very interested in having my 2006 Crown make some more power. I already have a set of 3.42’a and a locker on the way for the rear end. I was going to use an SCT handheld tuner for it.

4 valve swap. Do it. Otherwise, there is a lot of good info so far in this thread.

The trickflow heads are 2 Grand and you still have to buy cams on top of that.

I have a good plan.

PI Heads, ported and polished to stage 2 specs.
PI Intake
Comp Cams 270 cam, lopey but I like that
Ford Racing Forged engine Kit, Rods, pistons etc
Nitrous system with 100 shot.
Locker
Having cash ready for a built trans when the stock one goes.

Any thoughts, suggestions regarding that?

Thanks for all the good info guys.

Good luck with your quest for 17’s.

Don’t forget cash for:
Tune
Throttle body
Maf
Injectors
Exhaust

Becareful with bigger cams on these 4.6s you might have to notch your pistons.

Patriot also makes a decent, affordable head.

Thanks 38 Stang, ill make sure to look that stuff up and add it to the list.

As far as notching the pistons, the Forged kit from Ford racing offers two different pistons with different size Dishes, 13cc and 17cc. Ill have to look into some similar builds like the one im going for and see if they had any issues with clearance.

I did read, that it will raise the compression ratio to about 10.1:1 with the 13cc pistons and then I have to go up to premium gas.

The End goal is 400ish horse N/A 500ish with Nitrous.

I’m doing the forged kit incase I want to add a blower or turbo later down the road.

And fry, there was a fully loaded intact Interceptor with about 500 wheel horse that ran high 12’s

Not bad for 5000 pounds.

I dont care about being the fastest car on the strip, just want to add some extra fun to my car, and beat up on unsuspecting people in an overpowered Interceptor.

Most car people know stock interceptors are dick slow. Id like to have one that make them a rethink that.

I think crown vics run 16’s stock right?

so not worth it
