Bottom Mount T2 Turbo manifolds: SR/KA/CA (details, info, etc.)

I’m tiring of reanswering these questions so often, but i understand that alot of people have questions about these manifolds.

Please read the following as per the warranty section of my web-store:

SR20DET / KA24DE-T / CA18DET / RB20/25DET exhaust manifolds.

Some say these manifolds are excellent and some call them crack-tastic. We use these manifolds on 300+ rwhp cars and after tens of thousands of kilometers they are still performing as intended.

The crux of the issue is install. The SR20 exhaust manifold bares the entire weight of itself, the turbo and the pre-cat exhaust. If your engine moves a great deal, perhaps due to worn out engine mounts, then your manifold is not going to last very long at all. You must also be sure that your exhaust (catback, downpipe) is properly secured with good exhaust hangers. Reducing movement of you exhaust and reducing the weight load on the manifold flanges will dramatically improve the longevity of your manifold.

If you do not use the support brackets when you install, again, your manifold is not going to last very long.

However if you, like us, have upgraded engine mounts, use the support brackets provided, and support your exhaust as best you can then there is no reason why your manifold will not last as long as the rest of your engine.

DO NOT use the gaskets provided with these manifolds. We highly recommend buying proper steel gaskets for the turbo flange and the flange on the engine. These manifolds come with gaskets but the gaskets are not up the heat cycling that they are exposed to. You would also be well advised to use better manifold studs.

It is also a very wise idea to plane the flanges on all intake and exhuast manifolds to ensure a proper seal.

Cliff notes:

Do these manifolds crack? Only if you do not install them properly
Never use the gaskets provided, they fukking suck… always use oem or aftermarket steel gaskets
Even if you get SilkRoad, Tomei, HKS, DC Sport etc… install is the most important factor. if you dont support it properly it will crack.

i have personally been using a generic T2 bottom mount manifold on my SR20 for about 3 years and over 50,000 hard km’s ceramic coated and heat wrapped… both of which are said to reduce the life of the manifold… and mine is holding up fine.

Warranty?

if you notice anything suspicious about the manifold prior to install then yes, full warranty. For example, if you ended up with something like this:

then yeah, obviously i’ll get you a new manifold.

however, if you use if for 8 months and it cracks please dont expect me to warranty it for you.

Can i? yeah i probably could get another one for you but i really do not want to deal with the kind of guys that decide to buy a $175 manifold rather than a $1000 Full Race and then expect the world when it doesnt last forever.

I’d do my best to take care of you, and if you were not in a rush i could probably swing it but since i rarely have to do warranties i only return product a couple times a year.

anyways, hopefully any questions you have or would have had have been answered here…

i’ll be linking people to this thread in the future when questions arise.

Not to pollute the thread or kiss a**…

But I’ve been using mine since 2006 - works awesome - no issues no cracks - just use the stock steel 4 bolt rectangular gasket that comes off sr20det turbo (goes between the sr20det manifold and turbo turbo gasket) instead of the paper/steel type - like Bing said…

Best part - on s14, you just unbolt the 8 manifold to head bolts and 3 downpipe bolts, remove distributor and you can pull the t2 manifold out with turbo and exhaust elbow together as one piece…good stuff…

i used the exhaust manifold gaskets … they lasted for 2000 kms lol

i also used the stock SR metal gasket inbetween the manifold and turbo.
