brake problem, help asap

Im gonna be referring to names in the FSM so i can really explain things thoroughly… hopefully itll be easier to visualize and help me…

So im changing pads and rotors on all corners… I go to do the front passenger side and the pin bolt breaks inside of the main pin as im tightening it… so im like … what the shit… I run out to napa, nothing… part source… they have it… luckily…

anyways… i get the front passenger done and i think things are gonna go easy…

!!!HERES THE PROBLEM!!! (for those who dont want to read the above crap)

I take pads and rotors and everything off fine… then with the new rotor and pads on, i go to put on the caliper and the lower part where the main pin goes through will not fit on… Now, i had the rotor tightened on with a lug nut so it was straight. I ended up loosening it and the caliper actually fit. Now the problem is, its on so tight, that the the rotor isnt sitting straight its crooked. To get the wheel on i have to really tighten the lugs to push one side of the rotor back so its straight. Because it’s so tight on, the wheel doesnt freely spin when jacked up in the air… and it even prevents me from rolling back on a hill in neutral.

So im wondering wtf… I noticed the top main pin can be pushed in, so it was easy but the bottom one couldnt be pushed in at all. Am i supposed to be able to push it in and is it seized or something?

Also, i DID press in the pistons, as much as i could so thats not the problem either.

help please…

this pin you speak of is called a slider, it is siezed you need to free it up, clean it up with a wire wheel and put some caliper lub on it

check the sliders if not try and push the piston in more, if the pistons seized you really gotta give er to get it back in.

So both the top AND the bottom slider is supposed to be able to push in a little bit? Cause the top one does but the bottom one is solid… ill try getting it free today.

both sliders should come right out if you pull them and go in all the way if you push them the best way to free them up is a little bit of heat and vise grips on the end where the small caliper bolt goes in and try to turn them

alright… sick… problem solved… i just grabbed the sliders with vice grips and turned and wiggled them out and in…

thanks a lot

don’t forget to clean the sliders of rust/dirt, and clean the slider tubes too.

then lube it with brake lube/silicone lube or it may seize up again and you may not be able to get the slider off at all.
