I can’t vote until i know what the issues you are having
ah, i read the other thread… hmmm if he tried formatting, maybe fdisk. Virus scan, spyware removal in safemode. After doing that I would get a new pc if it still rebooted.
what OS is it running?? its definitely not spyware or anything like that…
if its the blue screen i’m thinking of, its an OS glitch that can sometimes appear outta nowhere… i’ve worked a lot of places doing computer repair and now i work for RMU doing basically that type of troubleshooting (not to mention anything else that has power to it)…
its hard to say without seeing it… i didn’t read the whole other thread, so i’m sorry if it was mentioned in that thread…
from what it sounds to me, its most likely a OS glitch … only thing you can do is take ur HD to someone elses computer, burn the info you need off of it, and completely format using NTFS on THEIR computer…(trust me, it’ll work a lot better)… then put ur HD back in ur computer and reinstall windows xp and recopy all data into its proper places…
if its not windows xp, format using FAT32 partition and then reinstall windows 98… DO NOT INSTALL WINDOWS ME!!! that alone is asking for problems… if you can’t get XP, just stick w/ 98… its the next best thing to XP…
w/e you do, dont get a new pc from dell, compaq, etc. THey are way overrated and i can build you one for a fraction of their price…
the only way they can do better than me is if you want a new monitor… monitors are expensive as hell… however if you’re fine w/ ur monitor now, and you want a good runnign computer, find someone to build you one… and if you can’t find someone… lemme know… maybe i can do it…
only reason i say to find someone else is b/c i am really busy now with several other computers that i am building and have obligation to…
hope all that helps
My opinion is there are two things wrong… he has the sasser virus… and his hard drive is going (has gone) bad. This happens sometimes on the laptops here at work. The PC group just pulls the info and puts a new hard drive in.
My opinon,
Beat the shit out of it in a field with a baseball bat.
my opinion,
who gives a fuck, my 3 computers are working perfect so I could care less if someone else’s is all busted up.
os glitch? wtf? an os glitch is caused by something… not just out of the blue rebooting. bad install, bad judgment when deleting shit, reg hacks ect… not just some kid using a computer and it rebooting. it could be sasser, b ut there are tons and tons of virus’s that reboot machines… i mean fuck, i could send you a vb file or even a bat file and restart your computer… so i woudlnt go as far as to name the virus in question. what the hell, it could simply be the chips’ fan isn’t working and it’s overheating the processor… so it reboots… i’ve seen this happen tons of times… i’m just not going to assume it’s the issue.
trust me, it could be a multitude of things… all it would take is me with the computer for 5 minutes to narrow it down… speculating on the interweb isn’t going to fix dick. the solution is to copy his info to another drive and burn it on dvd or something… then reformat. as per sonofabish’s remark about reformatting in the secondary computer, this makes no sense, as a drive format is universal across the board. just boot into an xp cd and click ‘ok’ a lot if you don’t care about his data…
rook: if he’s a good buddy, take the computer to work and meet me, i’ll fix it. otherwise i don’t want to dick around with it.
ok at poker last nite one guy suggested that he needed a new motherboard?? anyways, he didn’t come to work today so i called him. i’ll keep you updated. ps. i vote motherboard. i don’t think this is a software or internet problem.
i’ve fixed this problem running disk check…
i wouldn’t get all drastic on it man… couldbe something easy. could be a hardware failure too… never know without seeing it.
