My friends computer is all funked up. I told him to re format it. When it tries to start it just keeps shutting off and retrying. all on its own. Even when he tries to put in the format discs. Isn’t there a way he can just start it in DOS, or something?
how far along does it get through the startup? Maybe the harddrive or motherboard is toast.
I had a virus that did this before. It actually just rebooted the computer when you logged in. (some computers ‘log in’ automatically). I just did a reformat. Thats not an option for some people who can’t backup their stuff properly first though…
Try starting in safe-mode… I think you hold Ctrl while booting.
if its a dell. throw it away. what os is he running?
jay, is it booting into windows then rebooting? or not even making it that far and rebooting when it’s trying to load windows? could be a hardware failure too… bad fan will overheat and cause reboots.
you can format a floppy disc in any version of windows into a dos boot disc… just insert a blank and right click the a: go to format and check boot.
After “format C:”, was an operating system installed?
(I had to ask)
