First Time Home club is still available across WNY, if that’s what you’re referring to.
There is something along those lines available through either Buffalo Homefront or HUD, but it isn’t exactly advertised very well.
As an individual you shouldn’t HAVE to avoid high risk areas to be safe unarmed. If I want to walk down a dark ally I deserve to be robbed? What if I’m a 65 year old lady who grew up there and it’s the fastest way home for me? That’s a stupid mentality. It’s like avoiding bars becuase someone might try to get in a fight with you or avoiding a race track because some might talk shit about you. Everyone has the right to defend themselves in my eyes, and if someone tries to rob you in a dark ally and you kill them that’s a positive in my eyes.
You can’t carry a gun and drink anywhere. In most states you can’t carry in a bar period. If you’re going to break that part of the law why not all of them? I can go downtown and buy a hot piece for $50-$100. You think I really give two shots about the law if I get my gun that way? Doubtful.
That link to te guy shooting the skunk girl is rediculous. You do realize you’re not allowed to shoot from a house right? So he already broke the law. He should be arrested for being retarded and have his balls removed so he can’t make anymore idiots.
I understand laws and what they are designed to do, but when a law hinders the good rational citizen from their own rights it is wrong. Idiots don’t recognize or follow laws.
Also for the record I don’t believe in using drugs either but it should be legal. I don’t care if you go home and smoke a joint or od on heroine. As long as taxes don’t pay for your hospital bill I’m a-ok with it.
All the programs I saw are income restricted where you need to be at 80% of the area AMI. Last I saw, Buffalo’s average median income was under $50,000. Niagara Falls is on the right page with thier program and isn’t a bad gig, too bad the area is horrible. My problem is why restrict it? Why not let first time home buyers with any income get started? Chances are if you have a higher income, you have more money to put back into the house and area which will slowly develop the neighborhood a lot better than its current state.
Well the thing is the first home club isn’t just a Buffalo thing, it’s financed by the FHLBNY (Federal Home Loan Bank of New York) and can be used by someone buying property anywhere in New York State or New Jersey. So I’m guessing it’s more of a thing to get the housing market moving, as they assume people who make more than 80% of the median can afford their own down payment/closing costs.
Side note: how dare they lump us in with New Jersey.
…Where we differ is that while I agree with you in that there shouldn’t be area’s that we have to avoid, I’m not going to walk through those areas with a gun to prove a point. I’ll play it safe and not worry about getting into a gun fight. Nothing stupid about that. I’m mean, I’m pretty bad ass at Call of Duty, but I’ll save my sniping skills for the game
The drug thing…yeah I don’t know. I’d be pretty nervous living next to an abuser and the potential harm that could come from it.
i think theres more gun control argument posts in here than about the original subject. gun control shouldnt even be an issue of discussion. its a constitutional right.
if you dont feel safe in a certain area, then dont go there. easy peasy lemon squeezy.
When you can sell drugs on any street corner pretty easily in your city but the guy with the food truck parks in the wrong spot and the Gestapo will shut him down, you may have other problems like violence. Call me crazy.
This. So much this.
Easy breezey Japanesey.
On topic, this thread sucks.
Howd I know this would go gun control by page two… oh wait it went gun control by post 2

Easy, peasy, Japanesey. Wash your bum in lemon Squeezy
Buffalo’s problem with revitalizing the city is that the government USED to have it easy. There were factories and business in the Buffalo area forever and doing well for so long the government has no idea how to actually operate. They system is flawed because everyone has been doing favors for each other for so long actual progress can not be made. Its sad really because the city has such great potential with wonderful architecture.
If NYS and more specifically the city of Buffalo government could get their acts together it would be a wonderful place to live with actual jobs.
One of these days im going to make a Nyspeed Word Cloud to illustrate the frequency of word horses that are beaten to death.
Speaking of beaten to death… I hear buffalo is unsafe, discuss…
It’s only unsafe if you don’t have a gun.
I went through the heart of the ghetto on my mountain bike without being shot or having my bike stolen. Although, we stopped at a park for about 20 minutes a the corner of Jefferson Ave and Best St. That night 2 people were killed 1 stop sign over. IDK
Buffalo is/was a port city. Buffalo is only a city (and for a long time was one of the biggest cities in the country) because it’s the last port before Niagara Falls. All shipments from the plains (where we produced all our food) to the east coast (where all the people lived who ate all the food) went by water as far east as possible. Niagara Falls being the furthest you can go. So everything went by lake to here, then either down the erie canal or overland. Then Canada built a bigger better way to get around Niagara Falls (the Welland Canal) and Buffalo has been in a slow decline ever since.
Moral of the story: We need to bomb the welland canal to revitalize Buffalo. Come on. We bomb all these other foreign countries. Why not drop a couple more in order to actually improve our lives?
Just remember everyone… Single Mothers are the cause of all the violence! We need to make sure people are married before they have kids… that will prevent the gun violence!
Bravo
Great little piece of history there, which I think most people don’t realize. The problem is no one in NY can evolve. Times are a changing and you need to adapt or fail… Look at Galveston, Tx. It was once the highest per capita income city in the country, because it was a major port and entry place into the US. Now its not haha.
Honestly a nuclear family generally helps promote good behavior.
