Im not sure what their proposal is, or if theyre ever going to actually build it. My studio is designing a series of laboratories to go there for national fuel (who originally owned the building the facade is from), so my challenge is to use it in my design…
The building behind the Facade in this design is just plain sad. Its a suburban medical building placed in a downtown urban enviroment. It could have been pulled out of any “amherst” in america… It’s plain old LAME.
The reason the Facade was saved was to incorporate it into new use, or a new design, some type of unique urban building that belongs in a city. Instead of hiring a real architect that would do this, they skirted the issue by letting this sit out front and putting a walmart of medical office building designs behind.
i can count 13 people walking, i dont think i have seen more then 3 people walking around there…screw the wall, knock it down…why dont they try to restore some of the awesome looking churches in down town (like that annie defranko or w/e)
:wtf:
LOL… WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS? Parking lots do not encourage pedestrian traffic, suburban building and landscape architecture do not encourage pedestrian traffic.
Not to say the correct style of building here is going to instantly bring people to the streets… but one thing after another. More city housing, more city businesses, better urban design and planning, these are all things that will revitalize the city.
If you are going to build a building… do it right! I am not against new development, I am just for doing it correctly!
Buffalo already let the best buildings and architecture go to waste. All the pan am expo buildings were amazing. Sity had canals that looked like venice all gone to shit. Then dont even mention the central terminal. What a waste that is.
Somebody bring Frank Gehry to Buffalo or bring back to life Frank LLoyd Wright
Hit the nail rite on the head… Better not tear down those grain silos. Those are a real butte, and hold much in store for are future…*LOL
I was wondering what that thing was I drove by every day. It needs to die, it’s like 2/3 blocks away from work.
It is sad to know how amazing most of the pan am buildings were, unfortunately an exhibition was meant to be temporary, and so were the buildings.
You cannot say the best buildings and the best architecture is gone though. Buffalo is pretty much an Architecture museum, even in its current state. We have just about the greatest collection of significant architecture in the United States… even better than NYC.
However, we will always be the city who let the Frank L. Wright Larkin Admin building be demolished. (A Masterpiece in many peoples eyes).
You guys are so hung up on the silos… lol. Noones saying (except for the hardcore preservationists who dont know how to pick thier battles) that they cannot be knocked down… but please, just have a good reason!
There really is no good reason (especially considering the cost) recently with all of the vacant land in the city, and nothing of any type of significance being planned for thier replacement.
