Im doing a building on Genesee St, right behind city hall. Its the old buffalo gas plant, and in doing my research, found something funny as hell. They left part of the facade from the original building up, and it is a historic landmark, so it will stay there. My design incorporates this into the new building, but i found a proposed design from a local firm that is totally hilarious…
this is the facade that is there…
And here is a proposal from a local architect…
Youll notice the original facade is just an afterthought, the new building doesnt even touch it. Its just some silly ass free standing object. they even put windows in the building behind the original facade.
I doubt anyone will find this interesting/humerous, but its proof that even when buffalo tries they still fuck shit up…
I, personally, think they should (IF they can) use that wall in the design of a new building. Nothing like the above picture, but if they designed it in a way that it wouldnt look so out of place (like in the above pic)… if not thats cool too, but if they could… I’m all for it
im all for leaving it, like dozr said, it provides an interesting challenge in incorporating it into a new design, and could provide a very interesting design firmly rooted in the site’s history…
well, the building looks fine, but the facade shit totally ruins it. Even if they morphed the 2 together, I think it would still be gay. Hell, even if there is nothing going up in that plot of land, kill the facade. it is disgusting. A parking lot would be great right there. (I don’t even know where that is, anyway. lol, yes, I know where Genessee street is…just not that spot)
I drive by that everyday on the way to work. I was wondering what they where doing down there. Guess I should watch the news more often. So Blue Cross is building on that site? Also what where they doing on the other side of the school there? Where that big looking barn thing was that they just took down
