Buffalo food truck discussion/locations

You really are comparing apples to oranges. Businesses that can adapt to changing market places survive. those that cant, wont.

Open a Thai and Vietnamese food truck!

The owner of Lloyds dates a good friend of mine from college. Great dude, great tacos.

When someone opens a Halal Cart/Truck I will be happy

Rochester has a “food truck rodeo” downtown on I beleive wednesday nights??
I havent been yet, but it sounds pretty cool. Maybe one of the Roc guys that
have been/know more can chime in.

How do you feel about the internet?

Restaurants that put out a good product shouldn’t have to worry about lunch trucks taking away their business.

Yeah, I don’t think this is a fair statement. There have been portable hot dog carts on the streets for years and now this is the new popular thing to do. You can’t punish those willing to go out on a limb to start a new trend because those who will be left behind in the dust don’t want to adapt and keep their industry alive. Besides, I think there is plenty to go around for everyone. I think those who will suffer most are fast food places who have patrons for the lunch hour.

Yep, Bulldog from WGR tweeted a couple times that if you’re losing business to someone who’s sitting on the curb eating a taco…you may have bigger problems.

Food Trucks provide a gourmet flare to fast food. Not that these trucks are fine dining, but they aren’t just a bunch of guys slinging grease filled burgers at you. Most of the prep work at least is done by a trained chef with years of experience.

Keep in mind food trucks only operate for a few hours at a time, still have plenty of overhead in the form of gas, maintenance, employees, insurance, permits, parking tickets, etc. That all adds up fast. Shit weather can put a big hurt on their business. And lastly there generally isn’t table space and a waiter to make for a cozy meal sometimes.

People eat at restaurants because they want to be served, and eat at food trucks specifically for the food. There really isn’t as much competition for business as one may think.

The city lacks a lot diversity in places to eat lunch…

The city has no night life in a lot of the business areas…

This provides people who work in those places to get a new and interesting meals.

I saw one day that a broken prong on the power cord of the Roaming Buffalo put him out of business for the day. That’s a tough day over a little problem.

Uhh…what?

If you work at a lot of the buildings in the city and DON’T WANT TO DRIVE TO LUNCH

You don’t have many options…

This is coming from my experience working in 350 Main, HSBC Arena, and various other places in downtown.

You can only eat at the same handful of restaurants in walking distance so many times this isn’t NYC.

Take the HSBC Atrium for example you have Swannie House, Milos, The Hatch when its open? Morriseys is gone

There are 2000+ people working in this area on any given day.

How about here?

Yea Main Place mall has a shitty food court full of fast food…Yea the Library has a decent place for lunch in it.

Food trucks are perfect for both of those areas that have very little night life but a down of people during the day.

I think most of them also have a physical location where they do the majority of their food prep and cooking, food usually just gets finished in the truck.

by NYS health code you need to have a real kitchen location on file to do prep or whatever else.

Now that Amherst finally got it’s permit system in place I’m looking forward to more trucks around the office parks between Maple and North French. I still haven’t been to one but I like having more options.

Agreed! Some people get 30min for lunch some get an hour so sit down restaurants may or may not be an option. The food turnout time, in my experience, has been fairly quick with these trucks. Maybe 10min from the time you order. Again with the food trucks you’re getting higher quality “fast food”. Lloyd’s attempts to use all local and fresh ingredients for their stuff.

I think it is funny that this was posted today.
