nah, Just civil service exams are a joke.
My lowest score on any I have taken is an 88 and that is the one that got me a job.
Normally, they get 10 extra points added to final score on exams
Women and military get a point bonus too
being a cop in the suburbs would be sweet. being a cop in the city, not so much. being a city cop would involve dealing with the dirtiest, most crime ridden areas on a day to day basis, areas that i would prefer not see/be in at all.
I feel the same way, I would prefer being a sheriff or NYS Trooper over anything else.
my beef here is not the fact that they get 10 extra points becasue there minority/women it is becasue they posponed the exam becasue not enough minorities could not get off there ass and pay the 25 buck and go down to city hall, i mean lets be honest here if there was not enough white people the test would still have taken place this morning
Fuck Affirmative action. It was needed 40 years ago when there was a lot more prejudice. But in today’s society it is not needed. Especially in the Emergency Services (Police, Firemen, Paramedics, etc…) it should ALWAYS be the best person qualified should get the job. I think that’s how it should be anyway. It should not matter what skin color or ethnic background you come from. If a black man is best for the job, good for him, if it is a white man, good for him, it shows they worked hard to get where they are, not got there because of where they come from. I do not want somebody who is under qualified working a job that could save my life just because they are a minority. If you want to get technical, they say white males are becoming a minority in this country very rapidly due to the exploding Latino population. Does that mean we should get something in return? NO! It means jack shit.
Hard work, not ethic background = success.
And if a woman is the best for the job we’ll make her the secretary!

Seriously though, Will is a really cool guy, and you are a total douche bag. Affirmative action is no longer needed and is in itself supporting racism. By only hiring people of a certain race it is racist. In the 1960’s when it was needed it was a great thing. But today’s society does not require affirmative action. Ever hear of a thing called the Equal Opportunity Employment Act? They can NOT reject you based on race. Hence Affirmative action > beating a dead horse. If you were as “educated” as you proclaim you would realize this.

I have no problem if I do not get a job because somebody who is better qualified gets it instead. I do have a problem if they get the job because they are black, Hispanic, Asian etc. Best person for the job. That’s how it should be. If they have to pull the race card then they can kiss my ass. Maybe instead of spending their time bitching about “the man” keeping them down, they can go to school, get an education, and not have something to bitch about. This applies to everyone, not just minorities.
