I have supported Dell’s, Gateways, and IBM laptops at work and my own personal is an HP. I didn’t like seeing the problems with the above 3 mentioned.
I’ve had my HP since dec 04 and nothing wrong with it. I love it!

toshibas are prolly by far the best… if your shopping around for a laptop make sure you get a half decent warranty. Best thing I can tell about parts wise… well there propriatary. cant go to the store to buy a hardrive / cd rom or any other part but memory for a laptop. So make sure you get something with a waranty.
Other wise as far as brands go. toshiba when I worked at best buy 2 years ago always had the best consumer ratings. Also Gateways are the best for the buck. If dell has a special college student program might as well go that route.
Just don’t get a alienware computer…i had one and it lasted almost a yr…
but it looked good
any IBM house uses them a lot… they are full of thinkcentre’s too… laptops are kinda beat though, i wouldn’t use them if they weren’t free…

Dell/gateway have cheap prices but horrible support
hp/compaq is all around probably the best
I have no experience with Sony
acer, toshiba, etc… are just beat, stick with a one of the above brands.
I’ve had experience with all of the above. My thoughts…IBM’s are garbage. Dell is alright for the price. Gateway, go suck a dick. HP/Compaq are nice at a good price but generally larger in size. Widescreen ftw. Acers a couple years ago had a bad rap but these new one I see aren’t too shabby. Toshiba, usually cheap and the keys fall off. Sony is always ahead of the game but at a high price. Valo’s make a good investment as they last a couple years even with changing technologies.

I knew I would get this responce and I knew it would come from you! I used to talk so much shit on apple till my neighbor bought a new desktop, I went over, played with it for one night, ordered a powerbook within 2 weeks, best thing I ever bought. IMO
apple’s are good if you are a metrosexual homo with nothing better to waste 2g’s on. Any pc will do more, cost less, and run better than an apple. IMO
