Buying a snowmobile, reg title questions

I am going to look at a used Ski doo rev from a private seller.

Is there anyway to check and make sure there are no liens or its not stolen or anything?

Anything else is should look for specifically on a 03 800 with 2400 miles?

The 800’s like to blow out the crank seal. Check the clutch side to make sure the crank seal looks like its completely seated. If the owner will let you, take some starting fluid and spray a little bit around the seal, the engine should not rev at all. If it does, you know it is leaking.

Crank seal is a big issue. Don’t forget compression test, and a real good look over. Its real easy to swap out the speedo to change miles. Snowmobiles have a transferable reg, take numbers to DMV to have it checked out. Also 03’s had the beaver tail and windshield that moved with handles bars stock. Not uncommon to have those changed out. dootalk.com is a great place for info.

Unless you get a killer deal on the 800 i’d rather get a 600HO or 500SS

I would rather have a 600HO or 500SS but this sled is a great deal.

I have been searching doo talk all morning

If its a killer deal then throw new pistons, rings and bearings in it and be safe. Worth the few hundo it will cost for parts now then a lot more down the line if the crank goes. Good luck, lets hope we have good snow this year.
