buying tools

Decided to skip the cheap tools and stick with Craftsman. Probably best price I can get on them - was $499, on sale for $399, Craftsman Club sale overlaps one day  so another 10% off. The same sets sold for $370 on Ebay - not worth the risk.

I’ll have a lot of duplicate sockets, but this will be my main set and it has the full set of wrenches that my portable one doesn’t have. More nut drivers and screwdrivers too.

 good job,smart choice!!!

After using my dad’s snap-on tools I could never buy anything less.
I rounded out a screw with my craftsman drivers and my dad lent me his screw driver and got them right out. Same with rounded off bolts and nuts. Those snap-on tools/Mac/etc… make your job soo much easier over craftsman/husky/etc… IMHO

i got the 256 piece mechanics set for like $199.

mostly all you need to work on cars

i think mine is the same kit… Amanda got it for me for X-Mas. I love the fact that if I break a tool, a free replacement is only a five minute drive away… (I already broke the 3/8" ratchet)

thats anice setup !!! i wish i wouldve gottena bigger kit when i bought my 119 piece but thats all i really need anyway except some odds n ends

My portable kit is pretty nice, but when I went to put on my lower control arms I had to use a crescent wrench since I didn’t have a big enough open end/box.

Since my job is engineering and sitting at a computer I can’t justify the cost (at least not to the wife).

whats so great about snap on/mac over craftsmen (never worked with the other two)

Don’t know exactly but from 2kaltima’s post it sounds like the manufacturing tolerances may be held tighter. It would be interesting to see each company’s manufac. drawings.

snap-on & mac are good tools, but for the average guy craftman works great!!!big tool co. make many speacalty tools!!

It’s like night and day.

I have struggled with bolts, trying for hours to get rounded bolts off with my craftsman set - then my dad comes over with his set of snap-on and turns them tight off like they weren’e even tight. Also the screwdrivers are actually made from a good steel. I tried to take nails out of the studs in my basement to build a new wall, and my craftsman would just bend. Again, my dad comes over sticks the screwdriver under the head of the screw and out it comes. Now whenever I work on cars, I goto his house and use his tools.

snap on tool are great and if you break one they will hand you another no questions asked BUT first you have to flag down a snap on truck the only reason i will not use the tools cause if i break one ill obviously be needing another one sooner than later.

snap on tools are much higher quality tool than craftsman and slightly better than mac but like said before ill stick with crasftsman till i can get a snap on truck to stop at my house once a week

Yeah snapon tools are nice but this set here is 3500 bucks and a 48 piece 3/8ths drive socket set is 300+
