My gf has a 2000 Chrysler town and country lxi, 2wd, 3.8 v6. a few months ago i noticed the strut tower had started to rust pretty badly. well a few days ago she said it was making “bad noises” when she turned. i popped the hood and sure enough the strut tower is rotted right through. i can like pick up large sized chunks of broken metal. the strut itself looks like its still in the right spot, but im not sure for how much longer
im worried something shifted in the mount, and is causing interference somewhere when she turns. im also really scared aobut what could happen if the strut tower gave out completely.
can someone with alldata or similar look and see if there is a recall for these? pm me if you find anything, or know of a relativly cheap/easy fix.
thanks
ps… its a 9 year old car her dad bought new, maintained well, and has 110k on it… wtf chrysler
don’t know if it’s a recall but it sure is a super common problem jam. i will look into right now and see what chrysler has to say. honestly it isn’t expensive to have new ones welded in.
EDIt: it is not a recall only a TSB. Basically makes it more your problem than it does theirs. Sorry bud.
I think the piece from the dealer was in the $150 range, and we did the cutting and welding ourselves. It took a full day with the two of us doing it for the first time.
called my buddy at the dealer, i was told over 1500 bux installed per side, just buy the piece i can suggest a great welder, i came through for ya the first time ya needed my help with this thing =D
ugh fuck mike I just saw your post. the cars not even worth that much… well time to try to get some money out of gilbert for a new car… anyne want to buy a good running town and country that needs some work?
