Really though, I figured I’d post this up on here to see if anyone would be able to tell me as to why my mother’s temp gauge decided to do a 360.
It’s an 2005 Chevy Cavalier, so yes I expect it be some sort of electrical problem since these are know for it, but what exactly would be the cause? I haven’t had a chance to run any codes on it yet but sometime today I will probably get around to that.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks guys,
Chris

Wow that’s hot to the EXTREME!
lol weird.
EDIT: Obviously I am of no help, GL with the fix…
Mind you, that’s at idle less than 2 mins after the car was started (The speedo is off because of where the temp needle is)

I’d take it apart and zero it out for an initial attempt at a quick fix
Are the needles in their normal positions when the car is off?
boardjnky4:
It did a 180, not a 360…
yeah yeah yeah lol
I took it apart last night and reset the needles but they flipped again this morning.
When the car is off all the other needles go back to normal minus the temp, it just rotates counter clockwise about 30 degrees

locate temp sensor and unplug?

Would that also explain the speedo reading?
Is it directly related to the temp sensor flipping thus not allowing the speedo to read zero?
Coolant temp is about 3 mph?
I would guess the cluster is messed up…unless there is a short in the line, or the sending unit for the gauge is bad.
I would say cluster though, just because they do act as a module also.
Air Core Magnet system FTL.
That’s what I most likely will do, more than likely it’s the culprit considering the car isn’t really overheating
Speedo is off because it zeros itself on the position of idle (ie: 0mph) but when the temp needle sets itself at that postition it zeros itself at that speed (ex: my actual speed was 21 mph off of what it should have been)

I have spotted the problem
Or it is really cold.
Sensor should be easy enough to find and replace if need be. You can also probably find a cheap cluster on ebay if that is the problem.
