You saw an oil cooler and assumed it was an intercooler and it lead you to believe you saw a turbo. That’s what you saw, none of those cars have turbo’s, bud.
Who tunes the turbo’s on cop cars? :)lol
Each department invested in their owning tuning shops. :
When I owned a shop I had troop K and all the local BCI cars as an account, even they would admit how slow their cars were. In particular the crown vics. I’ve never seen a police car with a turbo in real life, I also had the maintenence schedules for all state police vehicles and never once did I read anything about servicing police cars with turbos. They also are using a lot of Tahoes, which max out around 135’ish, most semi-performance oriented cars would walk away in a straight line and spank it in the turns. The crown vics are a touch faster, but certainly not “fast,” and they are a boat to drive. I had the trooper/BCI account for around 7 years(I didn’t renew the contract when I new I was selling the shop) and have driven every car they had, and have driven with troopers to pick up cars, etc… They are astonishingly good drivers, they spend so much time driving with out the fear of getting a ticket they know how to push their cars to the absolute limits with out a second thought. The average trooper in troop K would drive 200+ miles per shift, just imagine that amount of wheel time in a car that’s not yours, that as long as you don’t wreck it no questions are asked, wouldn’t you push it to the limits and beyond? Troopers/cops are humans and like to have fun too, and honestly most had pretty sorry personal vehicles, the one chief had an older A4 with a 2.8 and one head trooper had a circa '03 330ci vert. otherwise most had pick up trucks, accords, and various other dull vehicles.
As to the question at hand, can I out run the cops? In some situations I’m sure of it, but I would never dream of doing it. Usually they would pull me over scream something obscene over the microphone, giggle like a bunch of school girls and take off, why would I run from that? While I don’t drive like a fool, as a rule, I have been driving for 10 years with out ever getting a moving violation, so I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing.
ATTN E-THUG DANGER TO MANIFOLD
They are NOT trained as a race driver is, they are trained to cope with varying weather, all that special ‘tactical’ crap, and how to react in situation a, b, c, etc…
you put a cop on a track and he’s got only a slight edge on knowledge of ‘performance’ driving over the next jos schmoe, or even myself.
Not saying they dont know their limits, or how to properly reach those limits. I’m saying they’re not trained to go fast around a track.
:gay
hang out near crossgates early mornings on the rt. 20 side, it’s fun to watch them fly around cones like it’s teaching them how unpredictable things really are out on the road.
Yea but the whole topic of this post is can you outrun a cop on a street not out run a cop on a track. This post is getting whack as hell with stupid post’s like this one.
loluright :rofl
cops have about as much agressive driving training as the average autocrosser. there only advantage over you is the fact that they dont care if they damage their squad car, even total it. at the end of the day its not theirs. another point to mention is that fact of which most police vehicles are horrible performance cars (with some exclusions) a ford crown victoria with a police prep pack is overall worthless. now will he cach up to quick on the highway? yes because once you fly by him, chances are you slow down and wait for him to get there…
Does anyone know any cool cops who like to set something up???
As long as i dont get cuffed im game to try this out.
Most, if not alllll police cars are slow as balls once they add all the weight of their equipment.
Sport Compact Car did a test a few years ago with all of California Highway Patrol’s cars. These included Hummer’s, Tahoe’s, Camaro’s, Crown Vic’s, Caprice’s, etc…
The Camaro topped out at 125-130ish, and ran a 15.5 or slower 1/4 mile. That’s with a professional driver, not the cop.
You don’t have a clue what your talking about in regards to that bold section. Police raises and promotions are directly related to damage to their patrol car, if you want to work the street for the rest of your life as a cop, sure wreck the car and damage it, however, if you ever want to make detective, have better hours and make a real living you better not damage your car. If its deemed they are not at fault its not a big deal, but if its their carelessness they are held accountable for it, not in that they have to pay for the damage, but the chances of them transfering or getting a raise that year are slim to none, you can also bet they are now stuck working all holidays. There are more benefits to cops to take care of their cars then to destroy them. Any sort of body damage requires a lot of paperwork to get fixed and a lot of explaining on the cops part.
In fact many years ago, a trooper I had a good relationship with had a deer run into his fender, he was 3 months away from being promoted and in order to save himself further delay and hassle he hid the car at my shop for about 10 days(if a police car is reported with damage in service the officer operating the car gets in trouble,) rounded up the parts and paid for them himself and I just installed them for him and he drove away. He got his promotion and had no questions asked, the other guys worked with him about hiding the car, ie sharing cars and making sure the logs were not out of the ordinary.
I know plenty of “cool cops” however none of them are dumb enough to endorse any sort or “race” on the street, while it may mean a few tickets to you, it would probably cost them their job. Having it mentioned on a forum is just begging to get caught as well, not the best way to arrange this sort of event.
Well said. Everything about being a cop is PAPER WORK INTENSIVE. Plus, I know most cops when they first enter their department they are placed under a 6 month probation period and can be discharged from the force; like for example, IF THEY CRASH THEIR CAR.
I believe it’s a year of probation for the State Troopers…
I can’t believe this thread has gone this far, lol.
Bottom line.
-Yes, you can outrun a cop car.
-As soon as they have your plate#, it is completely useless to run.
For the million’th time, You can’t outrun the radio.
Next season we should see if we can round up a few officers willing to attend an auto-x event with a crown vic.
we tried to get a trooper who seth and the guys at MOON know to dyno his interceptor, for free even, and he declined, as he has several times apparently.
You guys really think there’s a cop out there that’s stupid enough to do any of that? Be serious fella’s.
stupid, why? I didn’t mean a police vehicle. Some officers drive them as a personal car. or even the impalas. I’m just interested in seeing how they can handle their cars is all.
I don’t know any police officers who drive crown vics or Impalas, the ones who take them home have a privealage of some sort, I don’t know how it works exactly but its no their personal car.
there goes that idea.
My uncle’s been a detective for years and I actually asked him if his Impala was issued for personal use and under his contract and all other detectives or officer’s that can take them home, are only permitted to using them for work purposes only.
