Are you buying it only because of video? If so why not consider the others:
7D, cheaper and still 1080 video, just slightly less fps than 5Dmk2
T1i, much cheaper, 1080 video just slightly less fps than 7D.
Go with the 5D if video is an after thought and your main focus is an awesome full frame sensor with great high ISO capabilities. To me its a waste to buy such a great still camera just for its video. I was actually disappointed when they added video to the 5Dmk2, I wanted them to put the auto focus system from the 1D on it and scrap video. So instead I bought a 1D, now I have the incredible auto focus, though not full frame.
Did you factor lenses into your budget too? L glass gets expensive.
Video sucks on these SLR’s the quality is great but… its a bitch when then viewfinder closes and there is no auto focus to fix it for you. you literally have to set the camera up on a tripod or something… make sure the AF is set to what you want for the entire shot and go from there.
5d Mark II is considered to be Canons best camera they make. But do you really need it? Unless you are shooting, low light, or sports photography. . I don’t think you need it.
Now that you said what you shoot, if you like photography and like landscapes and low light the 5D is your ticket. An APS-C just can’t replace full frame. The shots I’ve seen from the T1i don’t really impress me much, pretty comparable to an XTi in the right hands. Based on its price tag the 7D is frankly unimpressive to me other than its 8 fps burst rate. There’s only so much you can do with an APS-C sensor.
I ran into this same dilemma… shoot an XTi, wanted something better so picked up a 1D. Much better with its APS-H sensor, plus amazing AF, burst mode and build quality that only the 1D can do. Still looking for a classic 5D for full frame though.
