Car doesn't stall in 1st gear (or 2nd)

Having recently put in a new clutch, and with less then 10KM on it so far
(haven’t taken it past 2nd gear or past 3000rpm), today I noticed that I
could put the car in 1st gear, let it coast and then give no gas or anything
and it will just coast in 1st gear, at about 650rpm (my normal idle).

Is this common? I tried it in 2nd gear and it did same thing (with a little
less idle RPM), but it still kept on coasting without me giving any gas.

No stalling. Ed tells me it’s pretty common but I need some second opinions.

You mean you let the clutch out slowly and the idle pulls the car along when it’s in gear…yeah…that’s normal.

ya i can leave my sr 240, ka 240, volvo v70r , and mazda 3 sport at idle and slowly let the clutch out with no gas and let it push its self along at idle with the clutch out. its normal man

That’s called TQ. dude it’s totally normal…

my civic does it, explain that with your so called TQ haha

If you’re on a hill…it’s called gravity.

Hrm, this is new to me. The last 5-spd I had was a Mustang 5L and that
thing just died out if you didn’t give it gas.

I understand how it works, but I’m thinking the engine load at idle isn’t
enough to propel the vehicle and so it dies out.

Ok, cool fair enough. For a second there I was straring to freak out.

LOL @ VTEC @ 650 RPM!

how do you think the guys do doughnuts out of teh window?

That has nothing to do with coasting at idle in gear.

He is talking about the fact that during the time they set themselfs up on the door and stuff the car coasts under its own power without being given any throttle.

you guys remember that guy who took his lambo to a car show and then used his remote starter to fire it up? he left it in gear and it drove itself all the way to the other side of the field and into a bentley.

Ummmm, my 5.0 got off the line in third gear if I slipped it out slowly at idle. Stock and with centreforce dual friction.

Beats me, I never really tried it too much to tell. I dunno why I was
always under the impression that a car is to stall if you don’t give it gas
while in gear. :dunno:

Sounds like u got the best car to learn to drive manual on

what if u have your right foot hard on the brake? would the engine stall then?

if not, check your clutch pedal adjustment… it may be dragging and lot letting the clutch to release all the way…
