Ok, so I just ran the car about five miles and couldn’t get any oily substance to spray. I’m thinking of two possibilities now. The first is the idea about the cv boot and grease.
The second is that the car wash didn’t get the oily substance off after I noticed it at work like I thought it did so when I drove home I thought it happened again, when in reality it was the same. This would mean that the substance is in my washer fluid or smeared on my washer fluid nozzles at the base of the windshield. I don’t know how anything oily would get into my washer fluid but I’ll try to see if I can either see the tank or have them look at it when it’s on the lift on Friday. I can very easily see somebody smearing the nozzles with a greasy oily substance. Especially since my ex-wife’s family is crazy. Thinking back, the spray pattern just about fits the spray pattern of the washer fluid so it would make sense.
Anybody know if the washer fluid tank sits below something that could drip into the tank? This seems least likely since there would need to be a drip that travels directly into a crack in the tank so as to not leave any fluid on the ground after I’ve been parked.
