Carbon Products interest?

I have been in contact with Composite Fab for the past couple weeks and have been talking about making products specifically for the 240sx platforms. I wanted to get an idea of what products or parts you would be interested in. Anything from door panel inserts to sunroof plugs to carbon lips etc. Give me ideas guys and lets get some nice stuff made for the 240’s out there.

Hey Stealth1, i dunno if anyone else would be interested but i know i’d like to get my hands on some carbon fibre interior pieces. Like shifter trim, radio trim, centre console cover etc. I know kognition design makes it. Here are some pics.

How much do they charge for those pieces? I think those are definitely doable just gotta see what market price is like on them:).

Yeah, some S13 interior would be cool, I cracked my radio/shifter trim piece…:frowning:

Well on their website http://www.kognitiondesign.com/ the entire S14 interior they’re charging $599.99 and for the S13 centre console cover they’re charging $99.99 They also offer 2 year warranty against sun fading. And i believe the prices are in USD.

Jon

thanks for the link, I will bring up the interior stuff with the company and see what they say. What about door panel inserts if the S13 or S14 have them? Any exterior parts? Diffusers? Exhaust shrouds?

How many people would be seriously interested in these pieces if they were slightly cheaper yet used the same infusion process and high quality cf?

^^

they’d have to be more than “slightly” cheaper.

agreed…

How much cheaper would be the question? You gotta pay to play when it comes to cf and when you cheap out your usually getting second rate materials and craftsmanship.

Also a warning to everyone who is looking to purchase or owns cf products already, many companies are selling black women fiberglass as actual cf products so be careful.

these are cosmetic pieces with no real functional purpose other than to look baller. So long as it’s real cf and looks that way, i don’t really care if its honeycomb or vacuumed or whatever the process is.

There’s no doubt in my mind that kognition produces quality pieces and i agree that you do get what you pay for… it’s just that with someting like this the money could be better spent elsewhere (like a lambo door kit ).

While I do agree that these are more of a cosmetic piece than a weight saving piece, I would rather have a high quality fit/finish/weave then have some crap looking cf piece in my car. Obviously carbon fibers main purpose is to be lightweight and strong which is why its used in hoods, doors etc. Kognition does seem to produce some quality pieces but I do think they are a tad on the high side but then again vacuum infusing is more tedious then just laying 1 layer of carbon over a fiberglass shell.

No interest in vacuum infused carbon fiber hoods or even Carbon Kevlar?

somethign i’d like to see, s13 interior like the pics of the s14 stuff… rear diffuser would be nice… carbon fibre valve cover? hehe carbon fibre driveshafts… i’ve actually had a hard time finding these for the s13. is it possible for a cf intake manifold? or charge pipes? or would it be too hot? cf centre piece for the hatches, cf centre pieces for silvia grills. cf fan shroud and cooling plates… i dunno i’m just laying my 2 cents down

for the S13 - rear diffuser, KA vavle cover, intake manifold …driveshaft…

I’d like to see those parts

i tried to get a valve cover done… not going to happen with all the curves and contours unless you are making 500 of them.

the facility that builds my gear manfactures custom engraved valve covers for various domestic engines but they are sooo simple by comparison. when i showed them an SR valvecover they laughed.

raceon has a diffuser but i suspect it sucks balls. i havent seen, read or heard anything good about it yet.

well, lets get 500 people to go in and we can get cf sr valve covers… cf vavle cover would be sweet

Would definitely be sweet but even with 500 people im sure it would be quite expensive to make them. There are CF plug wire covers available if you would be interested.

For the intake manifold it would definitely be a sweet piece but being a honda guy there was an “A.I.R.” cf intake manifold which made awesome gains for a long time but it was about $1500US. Recently there have been many IM’s that have came out with better gains than the A.I.R. piece and they are cast pieces.

$1500 USD…ok… that is only $1600 CAD…

If you can come up with something that gives good gains on a KAT I’m in.

$1500USD is about $1675 CAD + taxes + shipping + brokerage. There would need to be a huge market for it to be worth it, for 99% of the applications a properly ported IM would produce similar if not better gains.
