Carnival Caribbean Cruises

Anyone got any hookups? I’m thinking of talking to my brothers and see if we can hook my parents up with a cruise for the fall of 2010.

YEA! IM cruisin the week after this semester is over

i have no hook ups, but would like a cruise full of topless whores

they r pretty cheap as is. Save money, Get an interior room your never in it any way

I was thinking balcony because my parents are a bit older, don’t dance, won’t be at the bar, and other than having stuff to do on the islands…won’t do much on the boat.

Other than the pool and dining, I don’t think they’d do much on the boat.

The price for a balcony for two people is ~$1,900.

thats cheap, but you would be surprised what older people will find to do on those cruises. If you can find something to do then you should fly to an island and stay at a resort. I think you under estimate what they have available to do during the day/night.

My grandparents went on quite a few cruises and they had a great time on the boat. Theres casino’s on some, dinner shows and alot of other activities so your parents’ age really doesnt mean they cant have a good time. Im sure my grandparents were alot older than your parents are now.

Don’t need hookups. Use Southwest for air travel to Fort Lauderdale, then find a cruise out of there. I suggest Ft. Lauderdale because it’s minutes from the airport, so you don’t have to pay much for transportation to the port.
Go on Carnival’s website and find a ship you like along with the destinations.
I highly suggest St. Thomas. By far my favorite island. I suggest not going in the fall unless they enjoy hurricanes.

We went on a Celebrity cruise last month, and it was definitely geared towards the older crowd, which would be good for your parents. The food and service was top notch. We went on a 5 night cruise and we had a balcony room and it only cost about $1200. Even though you don’t spend much time in your room I would suggest getting a balcony room regardless of age etc. It is so nice waking up to the ocean (Even Wayne enjoyed it) I definitely would not suggest it to anyone under 30, but for an older crowd I would recommend it.

Save money on cruises:

Stick with cheaper lines like Carnival
Go with inside state room if possible; you should rarely be in it (however, after getting balcony; you won’t want to go back)
Depart out of Florida where most of the cheaper cruises exist (allows cheap flight too)
Easter Carribbean is very popular and cheaper (St. Thomas/St. Marteen are both FANTASTIC)

$1900 for balacony on a Carnival Cruise for 7 days is A LOT but I guess it depends on the time of year.

Use Travelocity/Expedia/other cruise websites to find the cheapest price. The prices are typically similiar but they often have free gifts (ie onboard ship credit).

Honestly: Consider a RC cruise such as Freedom of the Seas or the Oasis. It might be a bit more (or not; I went on Freedom in a balcony for less than what you quoted). The ship is THAT much better.

Thanks for the suggestions folks.

My parents aren’t your typical old folks lol. If you think I’m conservative in the shit I do, they are 10x more conservative…so I’m going to venture and assume that 90% of the activities on the ship will not be to their liking. That’s why I wanted the Balcony so my mom could just relax ‘at the ocean’. She has major heart issues, etc. so just relaxing like that would do her a world of good. They’d definitely find stuff to do at the islands, but on the ship, I doubt it.

Are the balcony’s private though? It made it sound like only the Suite balcony’s were.

I will look into Southwest (who I personally use for all of my domestic flights).

Thanks.

I just got back from a Royal Caribbean cruise on the Oasis. Amazing is all I have to say.

Lucky prick.

I’ve been on 3 different balconies. Typically, they are seperated on each side with a divider. You can hear other people talking but you can’t see anyone else.

If they aren’t going to leave the room much, then the destination is most important and not the ship. To me, honestly, the ship makes a big difference but then of course, we aren’t in the room.

Taking off to Miami and then the Bahamas on Norwegian cruise line in 2 days! Im hopeing the weather stays nice and warm. Never been on a cruise and this one was pretty cheap 3 day/4 nights. Short cheap get away. Never been out of the country so should be Fun! Look on the travel site for “Deals”. They usually have a section set aside for them.

Great deals on Norwegian as they have a bit “older” ship. But, for a first timer, it’s a blast.

You will be sad when you see how ppl treat some of the workers. These guys work their asses off and are treated like snot by a lot of people. Also, by default, they will put tips against these people off your account. We always add 200-300%. trust me, they do a lot.

Good things to know. I still have to talk to my brothers and see if they are up for it. Thanks. Keep posting if you have any tips, etc.

If you have flexible dates, you are in luck because you can just search various engines and see what deals you can get. The best deal I got was like $799 for a 7 day Princess cruise (a bit more upscale than Carnival/RC) with $100 off because I used my MC and I got $150 in onboard ship credit. You will notice the prices to be fairly similiar unless they have some special sale.

Good luck. Honestly, the cruise should be selected on the passenger’s personality:

Carnival = more partish and a bit cheaper so more families/kids
Princess/RC = a bit more upscale and RC has newer ships that are VERY high end
Celebrity = more adult/older crowd
etc.

Exactly what my gf and her mom/aunt/cousin did when they went to bermuda last june.

I rebooked with RC on my Oasis cruise for the new Allure next Jan/Feb for $750 for a 7 night cruise with $100 on board credit per person. Deals are everywhere online. What I loved the most about RC is that there were not a lot of really young kids and the ones that were there were in the little kid adventure place or the kids pool. and booz booze everywhere

+1… St. Thomas was amazing
