Cat5/6 in a house

Me?

Nah Locutuscrazyballer

Go with the Cisco Catalyst switches lol.

Why?

poops and grins

CAUSE CISCO IS MAD L33T SAUCE?

should he get a switch that uses store and forward or cut through?

Def get a layer 3 switch

Linksys 8-port switch would do just fine in any house.

Only time I would go bigger is if you are running web/email servers from the network.

Cat 5e, CL3 in-wall rated; have the entire 2nd floor wired; will be wiring the 1st floor later when I start remodeling down there.

And make sure you have full QoS on your home network

I am running a cisco pix at home

I have a Juniper SSG20

Soooo pointless tho. Just cool.

like previously mentioned, do not buy plenum-rated cable. i’ve seen a few people waste a lot of money doing that :frowning:

how much do you need? i bought 1000’ of cat5e and havent put a dent in it…

Come to think of if. I have a side job doing a SIP PBX and phone deployment coming up. I might need to grab some cable off you skatanic  I will let you know.

Hey Jon, your building codes are different then ours.

Hell, the building code 6 blocks away from me are different then mine.

That being said, ours has two be at least 12" from electrical wiring. Well, when cutting through studwall.
