After many years of service my CD drive died. I have a Dimension 4300 which still has the 50 pin (I didn’t actually count them I am guessing) connector on the ribbon cable and the seperate 5 pin power cable.
Like this:
I figure no big deal. I went to Best Buy in the McKinley Mall and ALL they had were drives with a “SATA” cable. The guy told me that my PC is too old and the drive I need is no longer made. I was not going to argue with the man but I really do not know if that is BS. It would not surprise me as my PC is about 10 years old.
So am I stuck buying a SATA drive and adapting with a patch cable or can I get a PATA drive anywhere? I would prefer to just get a CD/DVD drive.
