Congrats. Welcome to GM and welcome to Detroit. Any clue what area you are moving to and working in (Warren)? Trips back to Buffalo are less than 3:30 border to border.
Feel free to hit me up with questions about the area, been here for 9 years but still learning things every week. Summers here are extremely nice. With all the inland lakes, Western Michigan dunes or places up north there is plenty to do.
http://motownmuscle.com/forums/ is a local forum. I don’t go on much at all but they do rent out the track and the CTS-V guys join in from time to time.
@RedGoober4Life is still in Detroit I think right?
congrats on the job opportunity.
I’ve been itching to try a new state/area
Congrats. A good friend used to work at Greektown Casino. There’s still plenty of money surrounding Detroit and lots to do it’s just the scale of it’s totally abandoned areas is so much worse than any other city in the US. You know it’s bad when Discovery does a whole series about how the civilized world would return to nature if all the humans were to die out suddenly and they used several areas in Detroit to show exactly how it would happen.
I really like the idea of spending a normal house budget to buy 3-4 blocks and having your own race track though.
Thanks everyone. Its been super fast, I can’t believe it still sometimes.
We have sort of a dream list for a new house, so the house hunting has been fun. It’ll be really nice being closer to Buffalo, so we can drive home for all holidays or the occasional weekend. Might even make some NYSPEED events haha.
If anyone ever has the opportunity to move away to take a good job I would highly recommend it. I love Houston, love being in Texas and have made great friends and memories here.
Glad to hear all the positives about Detroit. I’ll be joining up on the Motown Muscle page to say hello. Once we get settled in I can’t wait to start hitting up the local car scene and meeting new people.
Great work man.
Should cut down on the shipping time when you send me parts and cars.
They just broke ground on this for a possible spot to live.
- 250+ Private Garages / condos
- 1.5 Mile Performance Track with 1/3 mile straightaway, challenging turns, exhilarating elevation changes and skidpad
^^^THAT is the coolest condo my girlfriend would never go for lol.
I need a house lol I don’t think I’m refined enough for that place.
Someone already bought 45 blocks
Between Dan Gilbert and Mike Illich there is not a whole lot left to buy up.
Awesome! Beers on me! I’m at Powertrain in Pontiac. GM has been a great place to take my career, and Detroit is a great place to be an engineer.
Buffalo is beautiful but Detroit has a lot going on. It’s a city that you only get by learning its history. I’m moving to the business district in mid August. The suburbs are like the suburbs anywhere (perhaps the Bloomfield and Rochester area very wealthy).
Let me know if you need any help.
Hmm. I agree, but the suburban sprawl of Detroit makes biking very difficult. There’s also plenty of sad suburbs.
The best part of Michigan auto industry is probably shutdown week!! Woohoo!
Plant shut down weeks (plural) for you (4th and Christmas). We are stuck in the office this week.
The highway infrastructure made commuting big distances much easier. Plus company cars with free gas let people management move much farther away. I will give NY at least +1 on road maintenance and snow removal, 6% sales tax and no toll roads provide minimal funding.
Regarding the affluence areas Detroit is a huge +1 to Buffalo. There is a ton of old money in Detroit plus new money as well. Go into Grosse Pointe or Birmingham areas and there are mansions like you don’t see in Buffalo. I lived in one of the nicer neighborhoods in the Buffalo area and it is not even close.

Awesome. My cousin will be moving out that way(Troy) within the next month, and plans to come back to the Rochester area regularly. If you find any good places to eat, let me know so I can pass it along.
 good luck to you!!!
Thanks gents!! Getting to know the area, starting to look at homes. My first almost 16 hours have totally rocked, I love powertrain!
Are you in Pontiac?
