I put a new gas tank in my neighbors truck, a '98 GMC 1500. After installing the new tank, I put about 4 gallons of gas in the tank via a funnel and it went in fine. My neighbor took the truck to the gas station, and the nozzle keeps clicking off, even if he tries to fill it at a very slow rate. He tried a couple different pumps with the same result. Everything is hooked up correctly. What gives here??? My only thought is the roll over check valve in the new tank could be screwed up, but why could I fill it just fine with a funnel? This has us both perplexed…
LOL. don’t put the nozzle all the way in, and it shouldn’t click off.
The high flow rate of a pump vs pouring in by hand has something to do with it. My F150 used to do that on the front tank. I could only fill the front tank at half flow, back tank was fine.
So, in short, I’ve got no idea. :io:
Ya, don’t put it in tight, I have that happen sometimes… When I put it in too far it clicks off
angle of the flow too, in my civic i have to lift up sometimes
my e30 was like this, I would have to put it in like 1/2 way.
just have him keep messing with it
Is there a vent on the tank that is blocked? It seems to me like too much pressure builds up and clicks the pump off.
both my dads e36 and my e46 cannot be filled at “full squeeze” we can only go about 1/2 to 3/4 on the handle when filling our cars.
My car does that as well. I think it has something to do with the fill neck. Splash back or something…
Just don’t put the nozzle in all the way.
There is an airlock. Stick something long and stiff (lol) down the filler neck to push the one way neck ball down so air can escape. Stand clear though because a burst of air and fuel may come back at you
My range did this when the fuel pump was changed.
Never got it fixed but it definitely had some sort of “breathing” problem. Has to be a vent somewhere
I ended up filling at like 1/4 speed and even still it would shoot gas out at me.
faggoty gas
Thanks for the suggestions so far… I have the vent hooked up as it should be. It’s a separate 3/4" hose that T’s into the fuel filler neck up near the top of it. Before the tank replacement it would fill at full speed with no problems. I have a feeling that the check ball is screwed up, but I have no idea how to test it. Maybe just remove it and tell my neighbor not to flip his truck over… The tank came from “The land of almost right” so who knows what could be up with it.
Maybe it was just you and your gorilla hands because I have no problem with it. Haha
I get this only at a very few gas stations. no matter what I did it would click off.
is the rubber portion of that filler neck kinked at all? if so that will cause this.
ugghhh
such a gorilla hands monster
re check the hoses. one of the hoses could be on wrong or crushed
Thats what i was thinking that or the hose got pinched between something some how. I did the tank in my k1500 10 times and it was always a bitch to get the hose right.
thats what she said
