changing a bulb behind the gauge cluster

The right light bulb that lights up the gauge cluster is burned out. I couldn’t find anything in how-to section so I was wondering if someone has done this before and if its a hard job to do.

Thanks.

It’s not hard its time consuming.

You have to:

  • remove the cover under the steering column (6 Bolts)
  • drop the steering column (4 Nuts)
  • remove the bezel around the cluster (2 screws)
  • remove the cluster from the dash (3 screws)
  • remove the bulb from the cluster (twist & pull)

Thanx for the info Adam.

Appreciate it.

takes about 2 hours.

2 HOURS WTF…

Oh right this is coming from a guy who connects the + to
the - in his harness and wonders why it’s starting to smoke

Dude it takes less than 30min to change all the bulbs…

Do you really need to drop the steering wheel?
Could probably get away with just taking off the shroud… I mounted my boost gauge where one of those little air vents was and I slid that whole thing out after just lowering the steering column and taking off the shrowd…

What kind of bulbs are in the gauge cluster?

(i.e. Can I uber-rice it and put in red or blue ones?)

Yes I you can and dont go uber rice, I might want to change my gauge face light to red so I will have red # on the white faces.

red eh? That sounds interesting. That way your gauges will looks like the inside of a Mazda.

Get a colored bulb sleeve from CT…
Slide it over your bulb and you’ll have a colored light!!
Voila

Okay no one buy colored bulbs from CT please… It’s for your own good.

If you want colored bulbs get BlHybrid Bulbs from Pacific Mall or First Markham Place.

As for dropping the steering column it is needed because the little leaver
to adjust the steering wheel height is in the way of removing the shroud.

When I broke My leg last year I had a lot of time on my hands to tinker with
stuff on my car and this was some of the whack (ricer) stuff I came up with.

That is ridiculously cool. holy crap!

So I have to drive out to pacific mall if I want those bulbs :frowning:

and how many bulbs do I need?

Someone wanna sell me the 91+ cluster today so I can do the bulb change?

You will need a total of Three “Type 194” Bulbs

Cool. I think I’ll do the ultra white. How much do these ricer bulbs cost?
