Growing up racing R/C cars on a professional level, it was always understood that you don’t use a battery and place it directly on the charger. Does that same train of thought apply to newer cell phones? Even since I’ve had a cell, I’ve always let it ‘cool down’ before charging it. However, there is no mention of it in the directions (Iphone), or on the internet.
Shit, Apple even encourages it, considering that when you use an Iphone accessory, it automatically starts charging it most of the time.
Most cellphones have Lithium Ion batterys, where as RCs have Nimh, unless you have money to blow on LiPo… Which is a lithium polymer. And I had a heli that had a LiPo and you could run it and charge it repeatedly, but only because they have a voltage cutoff. So I dont really think you need to let them cool off. Its not like they zap juice, most cells use like 3-4volt batterys, where as RCs have usually 7.2volts outputs at least.
The RC cars of my generation uses NiCad, which need to be pampered to make their peak charge last as long as possible. I believe modern electronics use Lithium Ion or NiMH which is more robust.
OP, Don’t worry about it. Cell phones have built in charging circuits to prevent any damage/overheating.
PJB- They will get hot when your charging it and searching for service (max transmitting power) or with smart phones that have multiple radios running the same time (phone, wifi ect). But this is more common with smaller phones, you probably won’t notice it much on larger, older style phones.
I have a blackberry, use use roughly 1100 min a month, send upwards of 3k texts a month, have a weather app, and bbm running at all times, and my phone’s battery has never felt hot.
I was watching some Tmobile kiosk douches argue with the Verizon kiosk douches and they started shouting. All of a sudden MTV showed up and started filming Jersey Shore. Really weird.
