Just a thought - I’d bet even with a V8 (and DOD/AFM), these Utes would be put in the “truck” category for the EPA and still improve the CAFE numbers if sold as such.
Heck, the G8 GT sedan got 17/25, and the 6.0L Ute gets 19 MPG combined (12.4L/100km) so I’d bet the new El Camino properly outfitted could top any other pickup currently out there easily (save a small pickup/hybrid).
(BTW - the 3.6L V6 Ute averages around 24 - or 9.9L/100km)
