Chimney Work Recommendation

I need some work on my chimney as in re-pointing and the flute (sp?) is cracking and falling apart.

Coming to NYSpeed for some recommendations.

Thanks

In for info as well. Need some repointing done.

You might be interested in having the chimney “sleeved” persay if your setup allows for it. This prevents you from having to replace the flue and/or seal any cracks. I know my neighbor had black hat chimney right here in West Seneca do it for like $1,500. They also rebuilt from his tophat, down to his roofline.

This would just be short term. My long term is to re-route all the air from the furnaces and hot water tanks out of the basement and blow off the chimney off

Just had Magic Stone provide an estimate. Reasonable price for two new flue, cap, re pointing, etc - 716-895-5878

Getting one more estimate.

Black Hat is good, one of my best friends works for them and does awesome work…

What was the price if you dont mind me asking. If you want send a PM.

1035 cash

I don’t think that’s bad at all. Although I have no chimney experience at all.

I know the Magic Stone peeps personally…good people.

Ahh shucks, could of name dropped TradersBase in getting a deal :fu:

I just did this at my house and power vented it out the basement wall. best decision ever lol

Just received another quote yesterday and it was totally different than Magic Stone.

J.M. Masonry would be replacing the liner and tuck pointing.

Called Black Hat for a third estimate and they will be coming Friday

Just an update - I will be getting my chimney rebuilt with new bricks, cap, etc for 1400 cash.

Care to share who will be doing the work? I will be looking at having this done myself.

I need a chimney cap/rain cap that is 18 x 9. Does anybody know where I can find one that big?

I tried Scranton thruway builders.

Is it thru your roof or side of house ?

Thru the roof. On rainy days, it is believed water is making its way down the flues still and still causing water in my attic (on the tarp I have laid out)

Since it is a double and has 2 flues that are next to each other, I need one big cap that can be added to the crown, cover both flues and is tall enough to allow the fumes to be released.

In other words, I need something that is 10 x 21/23 and is at least 12 inches high…

Make sure they take up the shingle and feather it back in. Hackjob roofers love to blame the chimney guys for leaks, and hackjob chimney guys love to blame the roofer because they themselves did it wrong.

On this topic I just got a estimate from Magic Stone to do some minor repairs, he hit me at $785 for some minor grinding and tuckpoint (8 joints). Grind & fill crack in the concrete cap, & install silicone at all flashing tuck locations. Seemed high but I scheduled him anyway for $750 cash. I had some standing water in my attic this winter and needed to fix them.
