Cerebrus Capital is relatively well respected in the VC/investment community, they’re BIG money. They don’t invest in short term capital arrangements for the most part. They must see some long term value in having Chrysler on board. That bodes well, IMO.
The more I think about it, the more I think Mopar will save money with this warranty.
It’s in effect as long as the first owner has the car. Since it’s non-transferable, they won’t have to do any warranty repairs for the next owner(s) on 2-year-old trade-ins.
my thoughts exactly buy a beater and have it for life basically most items that shit the bed are easy fixes or arent necessities like the drivetrain.
B. What’s Covered
The Lifetime Powertrain Limited Warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair a powertrain component listed in section E below that is defective in workmanship and materials.
Here’s the out that will most likely be used by the dealer to not cover a lot of claims, especially maintenance type items such as water pumps, oil pumps, etc. If a part wears out over time/mileage as predicted from the start it is not defective in workmanship or materials.
Just the opinion of an engineer/attorney. :bigthumb:
x2 I can see your point there, BUT. When going in for service the customer is still going to get it replaced. Why? Because the main parts of the car/truck are still covered forever. Big whoop if I have to change a oil/water pump. Pennies compared to a engine or a tranny.
I think its a great move, not to mention if Chrysler is or will be going out of business this will get them out of the hole. As sailor mentioned above, would be a hellova beater to have.
The thing that im wondering about is I have not yet to see a advertisement yet for this.
Yes but just the same, if an engine craps out with say 150k miles due to a spun rod bearing resulting from a worn out bearing it still could be said to be not due to defective workmanship or materials.
Having said that, I personally think Chrysler is relying on their crap interiors to fall apart causing the original owners to sell the cars long before they have to worry about internal engine and tranny parts failing.
They are offering the lifetime warranty because they will be out of business in 5 years anyways.
