cingular or VZW

I have Verizon now, but i’m thinking about switching to cingular. Having a cooler phone is part of the reason.

I hear alot that right now, Verizon gets better reception, but how much better? substantially? Think it’s worth me switching at all?

thoughts?

all i have had is cingular. I’ve had it for liek 5years now. Never have had any problems with it. Always have reception, even in places that other phones done. I’ve had nothing but good experience with them.

Data use or no?

If you are using data, Verizon.

Otherwise it’s a wash. Phone dependent.

I have had both…I much prefer the reception of Verizon to the Cingular I had. I have had VZW for about 5 years now and will not go anywhere else. Maybe Cingular has made improvements but in 99-01 I was not very satisfied with the service.

The one reason Cingular has an edge over Verizon IMO is the SIM card. Swapping to whatever phone you want without having to call anyone or whatever rocks.

yeah…what rubi said is true and I forget that I am usually annoyed by the prospect of paying full price for a phone unless I wait the 2 years :frowning:

I have had cingular for over 5 years now, its usually pretty good. A friend of mine has verizon and it is also pretty good. If he doesn’t have service I usually do and if I don’t have service he usually does.

I had a company provided Verizon phone for about 3 years, then switched to Cingular when I left that company about a year ago. I went Cingular because the plans fit the wife and I better (not data users, not a lot of minutes).

I’ve been perfectly happy with Cingular. Verizon had a real bad dead spot in my house that doesn’t seem to exist with Cingular so that’s a huge plus, but that doesn’t mean Cingular won’t have a big deadspot right in your living room. Generally both seemed to have good coverage, but I did get more dropped calls with Verizon. Your results may vary.

just use bitpim, problem solved there…

as far as coverage, in New York, there is no question as to which service has better coverage, verizon has cingular beat hands down. I’ve had both for prolonged periods of time, cingular’s coverage around here just is not nearly as good, it is cheaper though, and they do usually have cooler phones. All though how cool is a phone without service :gotme:

verizon=best service
Tmobile=best phones

im still rocking the se47 from like 4 years ago from verizon…dont want nothing they got cause the phones suck.

but i would never trade in my good service for a cool phone

hmm. idk i may need to just give cingular a shot then. B/c with my verizon phone there is a dead spot in half my moms house in OP.

i had cingular for a while back when they were just switching to GSM and hated it. realized that it just wasn’t the time to be with them. but now they seem alot better.

I don’t do much data transfer at all with my phone. basically, making calls and taking pics.

seems like most people are saying cingular is equal to VZW.

another note, it looks like cingular gets better service in Hawaii, which is a plus.

Cingular gives me reception in the bay, where friends with verizon, sprintel have no service, plus I heart my blackjack

^^ blackjacks are pimp. if i had extra cash i’d get one.

I just really want the SLVR. so i can use it for music and a phone. since i just sold my ipod.

Go with cingular. you can get the slvr for free, reception is at least a wash IMO, and you can pretty much trade phones any time you want, contract or not, by hitting up e-bay or any retailer that sells unlocked phones. then you can swap every hour if you feel the need.

u can swap with vzw as much as u want as well, i dont see the issue? free backup assistant, online esn changer/ or find a local store that doesnt charge for esn swaps? hell i dont even charge for phone book swaps (most places charge up to $15 for a phone book swap).

and there are so many phones that play music its not even funny. theres no reason to look at a specific model just for that purpose.

edit: and i think im gonna sit the rest of this thread out. i had a long day at work and dont need to spend more time talking about cell phones.

I was thinking the phone plan, Cingular lets you change your phone plan each month as you see fit, Verizon only lets you change it once or twice (forget which) in the first 90 days and then they charge you/extend your contract.

yeah whenever i try to swap phone books they try to slap me with a $10 fee.

but either way, cingular phones > verizon phones.

you wouldn’t happen to be able to help get me out of a contract would ya? :smiley:

u might want to take a look at some of the new phones, and the new ones dropping next month.

no i cant help u get out of a contract.

edit: shit i totally didnt mean to look at this thread again till tomorrow

what phones are they coming out with next month?
