I’ve recently started driving about 4x as much as I was. Driving a Jeep at <15mpg isn’t ideal anymore.
Criteria.
<2,500$. (I like to change cars on the fly, I never seem to be happy with them)
4 doors, reliable, over 30mpg.
I’m considering Eg civics (92-95) or 2000ish jettas. Pro’s Cons? Discuss.
For me, it seems the older civics in that price range tend to be in a lot better shape, and the civic gets more mpgs. The jetta has a way nicer interior, but I know NOTHING about VW’s.
Damn you, I’m ready to sell the forester to get one of these. I never realized the price of these now and obviously they are reliable to go over 200k as long as you take care of them. Just hard to ditch the AWD being a winter ride.
Civic, my Gf just got a GTI and I’m kinda regretting it. Its a bitch to work on and much more expensive. VW makes you get special VW coolant WTF is with that shit.
CIVIC. hands down…
My 93 delsol I couldnt kill… well minus the crap auto-zone dizzys i went threw once a month.
My Jetta is by far more comfortable for driving. but it can nickle dime you to death.
I’ve owned a bunch of both (5 Civics, 5 VWs). VW is going to be more comfortable, more features. Civic will accelerate, brake, and handle better. Civic will be more reliable. Civic will get better fuel economy. Jetta will have better body integrity. Really depends on your tastes.
I currently own 2 Jettas and 0 Civics, if that helps.
civic, unless you would consider a Neon, yes a neon they handle great are a blast to drive, return 30+ mpg and any part you could ever need INCLUDING engine swaps to put you in the 13’s are at M&M for $100 or less.
