Hey guys,
I’m curious as to how I can clean the IAVC on my stock 92’ KA. I’ve heard that you can simply use throttle body cleaner, and spray it through the vacuum line while the engine is running. Is this correct? I’m having a hard to time finding pictures. So if people could show me some pictures as to where the IAVC is located, and where this vacuum line is. Perhaps some more detailed directions.
Thanks alot!
I’m trying to avoid taking the IAVC off the car. So after reading a few posts I noticed a few people were suggesting that if start the car, and disconnect the hose I have circled in the picture below. Then you can simply spray throttle body cleaner in there to clean the IAVC. I went outside earlier and tried this but when I removed the hose the car shut off instantly. So my question is A) Why does my car shut off when I remove the hose, and B) How do I keep the car running while I spray throttle body cleaner into the hose?
Thanks alot!

Another option, and what I do if i’m on my own (it seems to work for me):
With car turned off…
– Remove the end of the IACV hose attached to the engine (use pliers to get the clamp out of the way and yank the hose off)
– Spray throttle body cleaner (with the red long nozzle attachment) deep into the metal IACV tube, approx 5 seconds worth
– I let it sit for a minute or two
– Replace the IACV hose and re-clamp securely
– Start the car - first start won’t fire up, that’s alright
– Start car again and hold car at around 2,000 RPM’s until things smooth out
– Rev up and down a few times to work the IACV out
And as spd-dmn mentioned if you’ve got someone else around though, have them keep the car revved up while you do your thing (alternatively, you could probably manually keep the revs up with the throttle body yourself I guess).
