Cleaning my turbo

Hey guys. I have my turbo disconnected from my motor. I wanted to know what I should use to clean it and what I should cover up so water doesn’t get in there. Thanks.

why do you need to clean your turbo?

Cause its dirty and I have to leave it in my garage. I wanna bring it to my room lol.

Engine degreaser should get off all the gunk.
I’m not sure if it would be good tho, some might seep past the blades into the seals and damage them.
If you do clean it, you should probably plug up the oil inlet/outlet and same with the coolant. (coolant holes wouldnt be as big of a problem to get some kind of liquid in…)
If you just want to clean the exterior compressor housing just spray degreaser on a rag and wipe the turbo, you’ll have less of a chance of getting cleaner in the wrong places. I dont think you will have much getting the exhaust housing clean.

… is the an old turbo that you’ve replaced? or will this turbo be going back on the car?

Thanks for the help. The turbo is a Garret BB T28 and its gonna be going on my ca18det that isn’t installed yet.

You’re better off just wiping the exterior housing down quck and then just put it in a plastic bag or what have you and keep in there.

K, just be careful you dont mess up the seals or anything.
You should probably just leave it and keep it in a box, thats what I did with mine.

If you have any questions about installing a t28 onto a ca just ask, I just completed installing a s15 t28 (gt28r) onto a ca, stock manifold.

#1 advice… install the turbo BEFORE you put the engine in.
