you got lucky, the reason you wipe with a hot solvent is so that the oil from your hands is cleaned up. what will happen is you’ll get pinholes in your finish from the paint seperating from the oil on the metal. on metal it’s pinholes, on most other surfaces it’s a bit more drastic, which is where the term fish-eye comes from.
