I got this HD I’d say a year and a half ago… dont think it’d shit the bed already but who knows (my last western digital took a shit pretty quick aswell).
anyway… I keep hearing random, out of nowhere, clicks coming from my computer in anywhere from 5 mins intervals to 6 hour intervals so it’s hard to tell where it’s coming from exactly (or when it’s going to do it so I can be near it to see). It sounds almost like a spring being sprung aginst something solid (steel or what have you) and somewhat loud (my case cover is also off though).
could be… if you know the hard drive manufacturer, you can go to their website and download a bootable diagnostics utility that you can run to see the shape of your drive.
just did a quick scan (I’ll do a deep scan tomorrow) and it says that it’s ok.
power supply maybe? I cant think of anything else that would make a noise like that
edit: I thought about the fan… but I kind of doubt that it’s the fan, atleast not with how loud it is at times (audible from 20 feet away). I’ll check it out though  never know
oh… I should also note that the noise seems to happen less when I have my other fan on (lol I’m ghetto and use a window fan to cool it when I’m stressing it out as the GPU/CPU gets pretty damn warm sometimes)
edit: jon, I think I’ll heed that advice… better to be safe than sorry
Clicking is bad. . . figure it out asap. If it is a fan then your PC will randomly shut down or components can fail. If it is your HD then it can fail to boot…
well… got a chance to run the western digital data lifeguard test (full drive scan) and it came up with no negitive results.
any other ideas? Like I said… when I have the window fan blowing on it, it goes away.
I guess it could be the cpu fan but just doesnt sound like it could be it (but it does makes sense that the other airflow is making it “float” in the center a little easier). At any rate… glad it’s not the HD
